Postage due on delivery.

Has anybody else had the mailman say that postage is due on items that they already paid shipping on? In the last 2 weeks two items showed up a week apart from each other from completely different sellers and the mailman said that an additional $79.90 was due on one package and the other $61.25. I refused to pay as I had already paid over $30.00 for shipping and the printed labels showed that the seller had paid that amount. The packages were fairly light and normally only cost around $25.00 to $35.00 to ship. This is crazy! Both items were sent back to the sellers and they had to eat it on the shipping cost. This is how you destroy an economy. This is how you destroy the middle class sellers who pay for their children's meals with money they make from online sells. I know this must be happening all across the USA.

Who are you blaming?  The post office?

Were the packages over a cubic foot in size?

I haven't actually been asked for "postage due", but I did recently receive an item that was close to 5 pounds weight, fairly good sized and packaged in an old Amazon box that had a Priority Mail label on it for 10 ounces.

Some sellers (it seems) are just willing to take the risk that they aren't going to get dinged by the Post Office for short postage, or that their buyer will want the item so much that they're going to be willing to pay the extra when it arrives.
