Post Office

My Post Office said they will no longer scan the labels I print off ebay. They say they are not accepting these pre-printed labels anymore. Of course eBay doesn't tell anyone like normal, they just continue to let you sell and let you suffer in silence when their system is broken. I've been on eBay for many many years and it just keeps getting worse.

If this is indeed true, then perhaps eBay had no idea of this.  Plus is this just your PO or is it a new policy for the entire USPS? And eBay is not the only online venue that uses preprinted labels, there are hundreds if not thousands of others.  I'd be investigating this further, starting with your local Postmaster.

They do at my PO but for the last year so they really push people to using the self-service kiosks, where you scan a pre-printed label. Technically, they say not accepted until the PO scans but the receipts look the same. I now does this and drop at the counter or in the bin unless its international, which can be scanned at the kiosk. Never had an issue.

I think your PO is overwhelmed and just doesn't want to do it. Frankly, I would ask them nicely when this change was made and is there somewhere you can read up on it as you try and figure out how to best handle your shipments going forward.

In a nutshell, that's not ebay. That's your post office.

eBay does not own or control any individual post office.  My post office will scan.  Find a new post office.

Post office can loose item as soon as you give it to them and without the scan they will not pay the insurance, if you had any.  If they do not want to scan it ask them for a receipt as proof you gave it to them.

Maybe contact your congressman and ask them to inquire on your behalf to the Postmaster General why you local post office will not provide an acceptance scan and receipt.

Post Office

my post office has a sign on the door to the window section

it says "please use the scanner at the automated postal machine in the lobby"

I just drop my packages in the bin and go.

maybe twice a month I will ask for one package to get scanned that is expensive, has some insurance on it + signature confirmation

I do not like waiting till 9am when the window section opens for counter service

the majority of the time I just toss them in the chute around  730am

I am not one to make an issue with tracking

I have been known to make an issue when the chute gets jammed up with a high canvas roller basket

just what am I supposed to do then.

i used to take them out back to the dock when the chute got jammed  but some big shot who I tricked into talking to me back there said he could have me arrested . I told him to put a low basket in front of the chute so it woud not stack them up

he failed to grasp the concept and I told him just get rid of the basket and let them drop to the floor

they wont get jammed up coming out of the chute if there is no basket.

apparently the window clerks said something about packages  not being allowed on the floor

That sounds like a rogue counter worker at your post office. Maybe not scanning each pre-paid package at the counter for you, but there is no difference between the pre-printed labels from eBay vs USPS vs Pirate Ship vs any other service. My relatively small post office has a bin specifically for prepaid packages in the lobby that a worker has to empty and scan every day.

Were I you, I'd ask to speak with the postmaster for clarification.

I know some post offices are more stringent on being provided a SCAN form at the counter for multiple packages than others, but not taking pre-printed labels?

Considering that eBay has a QR option (which I've used occasionally if my internet or power is out at home) that you can take the packages to the counter and they HAVE to print the prepaid labels for you - which is way more work that just accepting your prepaid & pre-printed labels, I don't think USPS is going to refuse to take packages with eBay labels any time soon.

If a worker at my post office said they would not accept or scan pre-paid labels, I would throw a keneptian  fit. Looking at one of my receipts, it says prepaid mail, so obviously hte post office is set up to accept them.

I might politely say "Well, could you just take three seconds for me"?

They have the scanner right there...

Not an 'eBay' thing and not a 'USPS' thing- that is the individual Post Master at THAT location that can determine, per their customer-per-hour vs. budget of what they WILL and WILL NOT do.

As suggested by others, find another PO or just have the PO do a Pickup from your porch daily like I do.

The clerk at your PO is yanking your chain. The prepaid labels are paid to the USPS so they are not being truthful and just too lazy to do their job.  I would have a chat with the Post master there or supervisor if the post master isn’t available.

They are lying to you.  I print my labels thru eBay every single day.  Many selling sites offer printing your own labels.  Also sites like pirate ship, stamps.com  I would ask to talk to a manager.  If you don't get anywhere contact USPS and report your post office

Just use the QR code and have them print the labels at the counter for each and every package.

That "we are not going to accept and scan preprinted label packages" issue will disappear pretty quickly.

Open a USPS account and use Click n Ship to make the label.
