So I sold memory modules for a PC, a set of 8 for a total of 32gb. The buyer submitted a return request saying the items are defective and not working. I send a question asking him how are they defective? They say that the computer won't boot up and when it did, the memory only showed up as 12gb (mind you my set is 32gb). After some back and forth they say the contacts on the memory are defective and send me a picture, I noticed that the modules in the picture don't match the items in my listing. The modules (picture with 2 modules) they pictured shows a different model than what I sold and pictured (no stock photo, picture with 8 modules), It seems they are trying to return the item that they had prior to buying my item, and get their money back. I called ebay about this and mentioned to them how they are claiming defective, not item not as described and how the picture they sent in the return thread doesn't match the models in my listing and that I felt they were trying to scam me. The rep agreed, saying it was very suspicious and said to accept the return, send a label, and when the item arrives not to process the return and to call ebay so they can rule in my favor.
After reading other threads, I feel like this may not be as the ebay rep described and I'll end up getting screwed. One thing I was thinking of doing is replying to the buyer saying "The memory in the picture is not the memory I sold you, the model I sold you is RipJaws Z the model you have pictured there is RipJaws X and the physical appearances of the memory are very different.". I hope that he replies in a way that would implicate them in trying to abuse the return system and have ebay rule in my favor. What are your guys thoughts?

Accept the return or you will be given a defect and the buyer can keep the items and get a full refund.

I plan on accepting, was wondering if the conversation here would implicate the seller as trying to return items other than what was sold.

It doesn't matter what the buyer returns to you.

And isn't that terrible!? I'm going through it myself, buyer returned NOTHING in the package and eBay said it's a post office issue, no seller protection for me.

I'm sorry but that ebay rep was successful just getting you off the phone while setting you up to fall. Make no mistake and mark my words it will close in the buyers favor, again I'm sorry..
eBay has no real skin in the game they just want gullible sellers that fall in line. Wake up people, there's a 800-POUND GORILLA IN THE ROOM! Say I sell a $8000 LS motor and ship it East to west $600 freight w/ insurance. The customer ordered the wrong motor no worries though, he or she has a Get Out Jail Free Card. Simple: "Missing parts or pieces"!!! Seller eats buyers mistake plus return shipping!! OMG the buyer can put anything in the comment- I thought the motor could make pancakes? eBay- sorry seller you will accept the return and you will pay for it, we don't get involved anymore!!! Am I wrong? Really all the Rock Stars, Speechless??

Partial refund scammer. Accept the return, issue a label, and hope nothing comes back.

I'll provide one most recent example: So yesterday another dishonest buyer submitted a return with the reason "Missing parts or pieces" on a solid item that didn't have any extra parts or pieces.. So what I to do in a case like this was textbook, call the buyer out with email correspondence exposing them as really having buyers remorse. I would then call customer service with my evidence and every time ebay would email the buyer to return the item at their own expense.
Not anymore Folks! eBay Leadership as follows, "You will accept the return and you'll pay for it, we don't get involved anymore".
I'm sorry your not alone.. Correct do not trust that ebay rep its a total lie. ebay will stab you in the back on this, mark my words..

Do you have a concierge because for we little folks in the trenches - as of April 2018 - have not been able to fight a return request. The best we can hope for is to appeal the case after the return if the item sent back is different and Ebay will refund us the return postage.

So it appears I got lucky here, or it could have turned out worse. After back and forth with the buyer, I told him to get qet a shipping quote locally since i can't order a shipping label in Israel being in the USA and that I would paypal him. He went silent for like 5 days, so I kept messaging him through ebay to ensure they knew I was trying to work with him. He responded finally saying he doesn't want to return due to customs ( I told him customs refund is on him to deal with locally before). Long story short he said he had the memory modules professionally cleaned and they work now, so I refunded him $40 for that service even though I'm pretty sure he just made the claim to get his customs money back. At the end of the day, the return was closed by him and he even gave me positive feedback. Glad it's over with and from now on, I will not ship internationally.
