Overcharge by SmartPost

I sold something this morning and has SmartPost as an alternate shipping option, which the buyer chose.  In my label module, the shipping was about $29 for a 7 pound item with discount.  I accepted, printed the label.  But...when I went to print the packing label, my buyer was only charged $15.75!!  Almost half of what I am paying.  What the heck???

This was not changed after the package was shipped by Fedex, this is even before I have shipped it.

How do I dispute this charge to me?  This price was generated through ebay, not fedex.

Has anyone else had this issue (before it ships)?

Did you review the listing & make sure that you had set up shipping correctly? The buyer is charged based on the information you put in the shipping calculator. If you enter incorrect information or choose the wrong package type & the buyer is under charged then there is nothing to dispute.

Also there appears to be an issue with ebays smart post calculator undercharging the buyer. If that’s the culprit here, you need to call customer service.

We're seeing this too and it's costing us a lot. I had a 14x10x10 box going from 32926 to 90505 weighing 3lb. The ebay calculator says $10.11 for SmartPost. The buyer chose SmartPost and paid $10.11 per the listing. When we go to ship, our charge is $24.33! What in the world is going on?! How does ebay expect us to survive with these shoddy calculations. This is infuriating.

This has been reported to eBay and they are aware of it.  They are working on fixing it, but it has not yet been fixed.  EBay staff posted in these forums that the calculations used to charge the buyer are incorrect and that sellers should not use FedEx SmartPost until it is fixed.  EBay choose not to notify buyers that list with SmartPost directly about this issue.

Something as severe as this should have came in an announcement letter but I appreciate you pointing it out. I just got off the phone with CS and as you indicate, they are aware and are working on it. For us, we have to go through all of our listings and remove SmartPost as an option which is quite an undertaking. And while they're fixing the FedEx issue, maybe ebay can add in the ever elusive USPS Regional rates.

Hi everyone, I have an update on this topic to share: we've implemented fixes to the way that FedEx SmartPost costs are displayed that should resolve the recent problem with buyers seeing a different price than what you see when you went to print labels. I apologize for the trouble this may have caused and recommend contacting Customer Service if you have any questions about the shipping discrepancies you may have run into while this was an issue.
