Re: Opa Locka package sitting 3 days now

I had a package get stalled, stuck, whatever recently in Opa Locka too. But for more like 2 weeks, just sitting at Opa Locka. Apparently they closed a lot of smaller local POs down there, and Opa Locka now has a lot more volume to sort/send, and they get backed up.

Your buyer may or may not be understanding about that, though.

If your buyer hasn't messaged you or complained, don't contact them. They may be used to slow mail if they live in that area.

You can go to USPS.com and file a missing mail report, if it's been 7 days since you mailed it. (I think that's the time period). On USPS site go to 'Help', then 'Find Missing Mail', then 'Start Your Missing Mail Search'. You have to fill in a lot of info.

It seems like once you do that, packages start magically moving again. From my experiences with filing the missing mail reports, anyway.

In the meantime, if your buyer asks about the package, apologize for USPS slowness, tell them you've filed a trace for the package, and thank them for being patient, nice nice nice. You'll let them know as soon as you find anything out. Send them the tracking # and tell them to watch USPS site, sign up for text/email alerts for the package, etc. But ONLY if they say anything about it.

Otherwise, file the missing mail report, and sit tight and hope it moves and gets delivered before buyer starts wondering.

Good luck!

I looked at tracking, and I see that you are shipping from that area. I was shipping to Hollywood FL, but probably the same hangups either way. Have you had any other packages go slow/get stuck like that?

And I don't know where it was going, if it would be going through the Memphis (hub?), but it seems like things are slow through there, too. At least here lately.

Re: Opa Locka package sitting 3 days now

Yes, I have had lots of problems with movement of packages thru Opa Locka.  I noticed that packages that I shipped 2 days ago are now going to a sorting facility listed as Miami Florida International District Center.

Will file a missing package report.  It is odd, usually when I have done that in the past, the package manages to start moving and gets delivered.  Then, 3 weeks later I get a notice from USPS that unfortunately they were not able to find my package.  WHAT?

Re: Opa Locka package sitting 3 days now

I've seen other people that get the same email about USPS couldn't find the package, after it finally got delivered. I guess they just want to cover all their bases 🙂
My packages were Parcel Select, so I expected a certain amount of slowness, but if something is sent Priority or 1st Class like the one in your post--that would be frustrating to watch it just sitting.
And, I think it has to have been 7 business days after the ship date before you can file the MMR.
