So I'm not sure if its just me or what but i just realized the ebay rate for first class and priority is the same for 14oz-16 oz packages. When did this happen and shouldn't there be a gap. To me it seems like a no-brainer if that's the cost to upgrade the buyer (faster package delivery+insurance).

The price for an eBay shipping label for 13+ to 15.999 ounces is lower than the Priority Mail rate.
The shipping calculator in eBay listings can be set up to charge either the retail rate or the online rate. The default is retail. The weight limit for retail First Class packages is 13 ounces. So when the shipping calculator is set to over 13 ounces, there is no First Class package rate available and it will charge the Priority Mail rate, just as the clerk at the Post Office counter would do.
Here are the current online rates for First Class packages. As you can see, the same price applies to all packages above 12 ounces. So to avoid your buyer seeing the price for Priority Mail, you can just set the shipping calculator to 13 ounces.
