Not sure if anyone noticed buried in the new first class mail rates.

Not sure if anyone noticed BUT

For the past year a first class package at 1, 2, 3 or 4 ounce was the same price, and packages at 5, 6, 7, or 8 ounces were at gradually increasing prices.

I just had a package going Nevada to Pennsylvania and I discovered that now 5, 6, 7, and 8 ounces are the SAME price. While we knew that there was a small percentage increase on 8 ounces, that amounts to a huge increase on 5 ounce.

A hidden increase?

The USPS is just creating 4 tiers ... also 9-12 ounces are the same price, and 13-15.99 ounces are the same price.

Anyone that looked at the rate increase proposal that came out around October(maybe earlier) was aware of that.

8 ounce rate did  not change for zone 1-2, but increases by distance zone 3-9

rate change 9-12 as well

then again 13- 15.99

Nothing hidden. all right in "notice 123"

Yes, every October(ish) this year was even bigger and harrier (zones) than normal, so good opportunity to link it again> https://pe.usps.com/cpim/ftp/manuals/dmm300/Notice123.pdf

I'm certain  some of the price  adjustments made are to correct some pricing that just didn't make sense.  For example, when the Regional Rate Boxes  came  out I could ship a Regional rate  A box from Atlanta, Georgia area to Michigan at a price that was about a dime less than a Small Flat Rate box and about a nickle less than a Padded Flat Rate envelope.  That was corrected the next January via Retail  Rate pricing increases and reduction in the Commercial rate discounts.

As they  say never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Lastly whatcha' all going to do when  state sales taxes are to be applied to  sales to all 50 states.  The  gap between Retail B & M stores will get even closer by ~7% or more.  States love to get new sources of revenue.
