No return policy was stated in the listing, but the buyer requested return

Hi,
I sold a sweater, and no return policy was stated in the listing. I also mentioned there is a tiny hole on the back and provided the specific picture indicating where the tiny hole is. But the buyer opened a return request saying the item is defective because of the tiny hole.
However, from my perspective, this is a case of buyer's remorse because it was already clearly stated in the listing. So I want to refuse this return request, but there is no option to refuse it.
I sent the buyer a message saying my no return policy and the tiny hole was already stated in the listing, and for these reasons, I cannot accept the return request. But the buyer hasn't replied yet. What can I do now?
I am still required to take action, and I do not have any item to replace it. The options I have are to accept the return, to give a full refund, to offer a partial refund, and to send the buyer a message. What is the best way? I need your advice.

Just accept the return, refund once you have it back and then report the buyer for abusing the MBG.  That's about all you can do.  You can fight with CS about it but most likely you will lose.

^^ Yep, this is what you do.

There is no such thing on eBay as "No returns.  All sales final."  A buyer can always return an item that they claim is not as described, defective, etc., despite whatever you might have put in your listing.

Be sure to report the buyer for abusing the MBG ... maybe some day eBay will get rid of these bad buyers.

If you want the item back, accept the return and provide return shipping.

If you don't want the item returned, refund and let them keep the item.

Decline the return and risk loosing your item and money.

When buyer files an INAD, you don't have many choices.

Have A Great Day.

By describing the hole as a "thing"...you made it so easy for any buyer to claim SNAD.

Also, should have been in New with Defects.

Your listing did not say what the thing was. It looks like more of a snag/pull to me than a hole, but the buyer could have asked for more clarification if what they saw and read was a problem. Either way, I don't think you can do much about your problem and will have to refund voluntarily or involuntarily, and if you don't volunteer, they keep the item on top of getting their money back.

If it’s a hole why did you describe it as a “thing”?

Good catch.  The seller listed it as Brand New ... it cannot have any defects if listed that way.

I take back what I said about the buyer.  The buyer is well within their boundaries to return this as a Not As Described simply because the OP listed it incorrectly as Brand New (it doesn't matter that you pointed out the snag ... the Brand New category cannot have a defect).

Just accept the return and forget it. SELLER IS ALWAYS WRONG - welcome to eBay!!!

Well, in this case, the seller was wrong.

She probably came here looking for support...but the OP was wrong in trying to circumvent a way around saying the word "hole".

At this point your choices are:

  • Accept the return, pay return shipping and get your sweater back.  Hopefully you can sell it again with a better description.
  • Voluntarily refund and let buyer keep the sweater with the "thing"
  • Fight the return, lose the sweater and the money and get a defect on your account

Ah- I think you may have answered a question that I have- Will the OP still get a defect though since it was an INAD? Or something that adversly affects a sellers ratings?

I am having the same issue- a buyers remorse case for fit concerns even though measurements were shown in my listing. Because I don't accept returns, she appears to have used "INAD" and said my measurements are different than hers! It was a flat lay tape- but whatever, I accepted it, but worry that I receive a defect still because its an INAD- not a "doesnt' fit".

So If I understand this correctly, INAD's don't cause a defect unless you appeal? Thanks in advance!
