Been selling on Ebay more and more the past month or so. Today I received a message from a buyer stated delivery shows it was delivered but there was no delivery in/at their mailbox like tracking showed.
Normally I know exactly how to handle this as I've been a business seller on Amazon for 4 years now and have the steps to resolve/fight this kinda of claim. But not sure how eBay handles situations like this.
I advised the buyer to ask neighbors to see if it was incorrectly delivered to the wrong address. I also offered to call their local PO or they could do so as well to see if they had anymore detailed information on the delivery. Also advised buyer that in rare occasions I have seen USPS mark items as delivered even a day before they actually are and if we could wait at least 48 hours before we start labeling it a missing package.
I'm familiar with Amazon's policy regarding missing packages with delivery confirmations, but Not familiar with eBay and can't really find the proper information I need.
If this package is nowhere to be found, or the buyer wants to pull a fast one and say they didn't receive it (and they might actually have) to get a refund, what protections do I have?
Label was purchased and issued by Stamps.com. No insurance (Sub $40 item). It has delivered status.
What should I next steps be? I have not heard from the buyer yet. I ran their shipping address through Google Maps to get a street view and it's a fairly isolated address with hardly any neighbors with a big mailbox at the street, so I kinda feel like either it actually hasn't been delivered yet or they actually have the item. There doesn't look like much room for delivery error based on their residence.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

When tracking shows delivery to the buyer's zip code you're covered. If/when the buyer opened a formal INR claim enter the tracking number into the claim then call to get it closed in your favor.
Tell the buyer that their local PO should have GPS coordinates on the delivery so they can check to see if it was mis-delivered.

The only protection ebay offers sellers is from item not received claims when online viewable uploaded tracking shows delivery to address on order. You need do nothing else-issue is between buyer and carrier

Your next step is BBL and call ebay to get the case closed.

Here is eBay's Seller Protection Policy. The last section on "You have Money Back Guarantee requests" details your protections and what you need to successfully respond to Item Not Received claims.
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/seller-protection-policy?id=4345
If a buyer reports that an item hasn't been received
If you ship an item within your stated handling time and provide tracking information to the buyer before you or the buyer asks us to step in and help with a request, you're protected.
Tracking information needs to include:
You should read this entire policy to see what you need to do to protect yourself, and the Money Back Guarantee also to see how easy it is for buyers to file claims and get their money back.
