I recently mailed a package to Italy to a buyer I have sold to before. This time to save money I mailed it via Ebay international standard delivery, thinking I would save money, and mistakingly thinking it is the same as the global shipping program, where the buyer won't have to pay import fees. Well I was wrong there, and using EISD actually seems to have created large import fees. This buyer did not complain about these fees when I mailed something to him via first class international shipping in the past. I believe that me trying to save a few dollars cost the buyer a lot of money, which I feel morally bound to refund him because I called ebay and they refused to do so. I will never use ebay international shipping again.

I ship to Italy frequently and it was dropped from the edelcon program a while ago.so much for cheap shipping with tracking
using EISD is about the same as using the GSP except the taxes are not paid upfront but after the item is received
I think if you use regular 1st class its better for the buyer as far as customs
I only ship to the edelcon list countries

Ebay should clearly explain this to people but I suppose they don't think it is in their best interests. I am refunding the buyer $48 thanks to ebay not being up front. I won't use EISD to any country, rather on a safe list or not.

What is the edelcon list countries? I have a bunch of countries I don't ship to based on researching the boards and tracking info. I'm wondering if I need to modify it again based on new info?

Thanks for the link! I've got all of those on my ship to list along with a few others. I haven't had any tracking/customs/fees issues so far so I think I'm doing okay!
The thing is, I have the GSP program activated for those countries that I don't ship to, but I don't think I've EVER gotten a sale through that program. I've been selling for years now. Lately I've had quite a few international sales though. I find it strange.

I don't know what it is, but int'l sales are very strong for me. I used to be at 10%, which creeped up to 25%, and I've been at more like 40% over the past few weeks. I (almost) exclusively use GSP for int'l. My buyers seem to get hit with import fees, regardless of how I ship, so I prefer to have that sticker shock out of the way.
