Just follow the prompts.
Go to Help & Contact at the top of the page, or to the Resolution Center to get back to the issue and enter your response.
Buyers can return anything at eBay.
Sealed, old, new, whatever... You need to accept the return.

Under the ebay MBG the buyer just has to SAY that the item is not as described and you MUST accept the return and refund the buyer.
IF you do not do so willingly then eBay steps in and forces a refund. You do not get your sellers fees back, you get a DEFECT and the buyer may be allowed to keep the item.
If the buyer abuses the eBay MBG in some way then you can report them but it doesn't get your money back

The only slight protection a seller has is if they offer FREE RETURN shipping on their listings OR if they are a Top Rated seller and offer 30 days or greater returns. The seller can then reduce the refund amount by up to 50% if the buyer sends a different item or somehow reduces the value of the item.

Even if its a sealed item? So in theory I sell an item that is sealed, they open it and request a return and then they send it back opened. At that point the product really has no value, so I'm out that money (of the sale)?
That sounds extremely unfair to the seller.
Also who pays for the shipping? In my description I don't have "free returns"

Seller pays for shipping if customer opens a return using 'damaged' 'missing parts' or 'not as described'. For reasons like 'changed mind' 'doesn't fit' 'don't like color' etc. buyer pays.
ps. if you talking about that Corvette puzzle- sealed, unsealed- nobody will care; just state 'all is there' and you will resell it the same. I think most buy that to 'open', not to 'collect'.

the customer said "doesnt work or defective"

Then you will be paying for the shipping.

So you go to the store and purchase an item and leave it sealed before you return it:
Or do you open it and try it before you return it????
Yep even if opened you will have to refund.
Oh just saying No return is not NO refund.
Get your item back, return for refund.
And you pay for the return shipping which with eBay, can be high priced at times.

there are restocking fees.
So just to summarize. If a customer buys a product for say $50 and and additional $10 in shipping., that adds up to $60, I get a discount on shipping when I buy my label through ebay (say $8). When a customer returns an item, ebay refunds them how much? And do I still pay for the shipping to and from the buyer?

@jeffrey000 Sorry I didn't say the policy was fair.... but just letting you know what it is. 😞
If you don't refund willingly eBay will step in and force a refund. You will get a DEFECT, you will not get your sellers fees back. Buyer may be allowed to keep the item.

You will be charged both ways on the shipping. Good luck on the restock fees.
Be careful, if eBay steps in your seller metrics will take a hit.
Always best if you can work it out to were the buyer is happy.
