Need help figuring out which box to use when shipping with USPS

Hi guys,

I am currently confused about what box/service I should be using to ship out my item.

My item demensions (rounded up) are: 15 (length) X 9 (width) X 3 (height)

I dont have a box on hand so I will need to go to the post office to get one (free). But which box/service should I purchase on the ebay website?

I know my item doesnt fit in any flat rate medium boxes and the flat rate large ones have a max demension of 12.

Please help!

Yes.
Priority Mail
Calculated Shipping

Before you can pick a service, you need to know what kind of box you will be using.

You will need to find a box that the item will fit in and go from there.

If you choose a priority mail box, then choose priority mail when listing.

If you use a plain box, you can ship ground.

Once you have your box, pack the item and weight it.

If choosing calculated shipping, you will need the dimensions and weight of the box to get the correct shipping amount.

Have a great day.

Some carry a large flatrate game box. about 23" long

You can put your item in any box, and put a priority sticker on it.

I found an old Amazon box lying around which fits my item perfectly (including bubblewrap). Can I repurpose this box by sticking a new shipping label over the original one, and if I am able to which service should I select. Thank you!

USPS priority mail. When checking out do I specify the product demensions or the package demensions, which specific service do I pay for? Also should I cross out any random packaging sticks left by amazon?

Yes, that's exactly what you should do. I use old Az boxes all the time.  Remove, cover,  or scribble out any old address information or bar codes.

When you print your postage label, just choose regular Priority Mail package/thick envelope.  Not one of the special flat rate or regional rate boxes.

Most Post offices carry a VERY limited selection of boxes, both the free Priority ones and regular boxes that they will sell to you for inflated prices.  You should always have your box BEFORE  you list the item, to ensure that you can ship promptly and also so that you can charge the buyer the correct postage cost, which requires knowing the weight of your package.

"which specific service do I pay for? "

Which specific service did your eBay listing say that you would use?

With your used Amazon box you will be using a ZONED Priority shipping since you listed with Priority that is your only option.

With this mark out any old address and any old barcodes.

Package the item and weigh and measure it. Weights are based on pounds 'up to but not over' so if it is 5 lbs 1 ounce you need postage for 6 lbs. Same with the measurements of the box. Postage amounts will very by distance.

You can order a Priority Mail Box that  measures (inside dimensions) - 12.375 x 3 x 15.25 from USPS.com.  Box number 1095.   This should work fine.  No cost to you.

Typically you won't find them at your local PO.

You specify the package dimensions and total weight of the package w/ product &packing and  add an ounce or two to cover taping, lables, etc.

Not clear what you mean by "which specific service do I pay for?".  But if you are  using Priority Mail" you will pay for Priority Mail based on distance adn total weight adn if the total  package dimensions exceed 1 cu. ft. (1728 cu. in)you will pay a significant additional amount above the standard Priority Mail Rates.
