My listing with 14-16 oz First class are showing Priority Rate ship fee

Ive items that are listed shipping as 1st class that have it's heaviest allowed weight amount (between 13-16 oz).

Yet the ship fee on the listing showing to buyers is at much higher Priority Mail amount.

$6.28 is the highest 1st class postage I can purchase.

Thats for both the heaviest 1st class allowed thru ebay allowed (13-16oz.) and going furthest away (like California or Alaska).

FOR EXAMPLE
Im in NJ.

# 224935379754 is listed as 14 oz and First Class shipping.

$6.28 would be my postage to mail from here  NJ to a California buyer (furthest most costly zone from me).
YET

$11.60 is listing's ship fee showing to California mailing address buyers
$11.60 is just over the Priority to California for that weight.

SO ITS SHOWING PRIORITY rates despite it being between 13-16oz and chosen as 1st class.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?

The eBay shipping calculator defaults to show the retail prices, and the retail weight limit for First Class packages is 13 ounces. So when you enter a higher weight, the shipping calculator does what the Post Office clerk would do: Upgrade to Priority.

The simplest solution is to enter the weight as 13 ounces, because the price is the same.

Or you could set up your site preferences so that the shipping calculator shows the online rates, aka "carrier discounts." But this would affect all of your listings.

What nobody said. Will normally set it to 13 ounces. Occasionally I will upgrade it to one of the flat rate envelope/padded mailer options if it will fit since it will be nearly the same for the buyer.

Actually. Looks like my memory of flat rate pricing is out of date. So scratch using that as an option.

As others state the problem is the eBay shipping calculator is based on retail rates and the 13 ounce limit. But when you go to actually purchase the shipping label you get the discounted eBay rate, or other shipper like Pirate Ship, rate and the weight limit is 16 ounces for first class domestic, international I believe it is 4 pounds. I am on the east coast like you are. Following is a calculated rate from Pirate shipping for a package going from Virginia to California with a package weight of 15 ounces.

if your buyer is paying 1st Class "Retail" on the 13 ounce listings the PFRE isn't really that much more, but of course it depends upon the item selling price/profit margin to decide if the upgrade is doable.

Those are the same as the prices for eBay labels.

I NEVER use calculated shipping and mine is showing priority shipping. What is Ebay going to do about this?

You have over 600 listings; did you have a particular one in mind?

Funny because after posting it did occur to me & I did change them all to 13oz (except my example which I escalated thru ebay)  which did end up switching from Priortiy to 1st class ship fee pricing on those listings.  I NOW have to remember to bump up that weight if sold so label weight is under actual weight.

I understood the rate was increasing after 13oz due to retail limit BUT they shouldnt period. Theres no positve, it just complicates things.

To be both profitable and competative, we are often researching prior sales, considering our postage and competing listings to decide on what we consider right listing price and postage.  We also have to remember if its 13-16oz, got to compensate for ebay overcharging on the ship fee to be competitive again.

I sure hope theres some technicality requiring this of them and not just bad corporate decision because it will be easy to forget about ebays weird 13-16oz ship fee overpricing

eBay is charging the correct price for packages over 13 ounces, if you leave the shipping calculator set up to charge retail pricing. This is not an error.

eBay had to choose whether the retail price or the online price should be the default. Probably they chose retail because it's not reasonable to assume that all sellers purchase postage online. The weight limit for online First Class packages was 13 ounces too, until just 3 or 4 years ago.

"... because it's not reasonable to assume that all sellers purchase postage online"

Wow -  thats exactly what I was doing because I hadn't taken into account that of course not every seller uses ebay postage and gets 1st class up to 16oz.

Hence the default for 13-16oz is Priority Rate, I see. I just think that if you choose 1st class with weight between 13-16oz, that should prevent listing to show as Priority pricing.

"...if you leave the shipping calculator set up to charge retail pricing"

Is there an actual way to set the shipping calculator to not switch 13-16oz to Priority, whether as a preference all the time or even to do it every time.

nobody's_perfect?

Somebody's perfect because you just solved (THANK YOU!) what  multiple ebay representatives had no clue on.

"...USPS discounted - Published online rates available when you print eBay shipping labels."

YES - After checking that box that I wanted USPS discounted, all my 13-16oz listings' ship fees changed to 1st Class pricing. My second ebay account also didn't have that chosen so checked box again.

Also those listings I'd lowered weight to 13oz to force the 1st class rate I decided to increase to full 16oz - why not to  allow for the most packaging at same price.

Thank you nobody's_perfect, Thank you Thank you Thank you
