Okay, so all the listings do show the tracking number once you open the Order Details, but none show the number on the main page? That does sound weird.
I can think of two possibilities:
- This is another one of those annoying non-enhancements, or in other words a deliberate revision done by coders who do not themselves actually use eBay, and we will eventually all begin seeing the same omissions in our own buying accounts.
- (I'm hoping that this is the real reason.) Some pages we use are assembled on the fly when we click on the link, bringing in data from various locations to provide the most current info (i.e. data that is not stored and re-used the next time you visit that page). If the page calls for data from some source that does not provide it immediately, the page can either wait until its call is returned with the requested data, or plow ahead without it.
Hopefully, what you're seeing is just a server that's not promptly receiving the tracking number it requested, and thus continues on as if it's displaying a transaction that never had a tracking number anyway.
When you click on the Order Details link, that page won't come up until it gets all its data, including that tracking number (if present). In other words, it will wait for a result to its tracking number call (even if the response is that one was not uploaded), so Order Details may be able to show slow-returned data that the main page wasn't willing to wait around for.
All the above is just supposition by me, based on my own IT experience, but eBay's coding efforts are so slapdash that it's hard to tell the bugs from the designed-in annoyances. Perhaps time will tell.
