Local pick up that now needs shipped

Hi 🙂

I sold a chainsaw with the delivery option set for local pickup only, but a guy out of state (KS >VA) purchased it without realizing/reading this. I was trying to avoid the whole shipping a chainsaw thing because I knew it would suck royally to box up & all. But he just made a mistake anyone could have made & he said he’d pay for shipping & so I agreed to ship. A YouTube video & a couple hours later of me verbally & physically abusing a cardboard box, I managed to have a shippable package. Can I get a shipping label/discount through ebay? It’s a fairly big & heavy package & just seems kinda expensive .. & how do I collect the shipping cost from the buyer?  On the side through like PayPal or cash app or Facebook pay? & handling fee?? & last thing, what carrier should I use? I just suck at mostly everything shipping in general so this whole chainsaw situation is extra perplexing for me. I’m a noob & I’d appreciate any suggestions or advice or just straight up tell me what to do.

Thank you~ k

Straight up: Cancel the transaction, citing "problem with buyer's address."

I agree with 'nobody's_perfect'. You can also send a message to the buyer with estimated cost to ship the item. He nay rethink the shipping option once he sees the cost. Anyway make it known to the buyer he is responsible for the shipping cost if he wants to go through with it. If he declines the shipping option cancel the transaction.

Your buyer is requesting something (shipping vs local pickup) that was not offered in the listing.  You can cancel, citing the above as the reason, or use "problem with buyer's address".  When the buyer realizes the cost of shipping a chain saw, he's likely to ask you to cancel it anyway.

Word of advice (unsolicited):  When a seller lists with local pickup, it's almost always because he does not want to go to the trouble of packing and shipping and is probably aware of how costly it would be to ship for the buyer.  Stick to your guns and don't cave to those requesting that you pack and ship.  If you wanted to do that, you would have listed it with shipping available.

Also, if this is a used GAS POWERED chainsaw, I don't think you can ship through USPS (at least)... hazardous materials. There will be gasoline in the fuel lines.

Just cancel the order

Cancel with problem with buyer's address.  This item is very , very expensive to ship.  THen you run the risk of the buyer wanting to return the item and you get stuck paying.  This item will have a big surcharge because of the size. Plus , if it's gasoline powered and used, you might not be able to ship USPS.   Go ahead and cancel with PROBLEM WITH BUYER'S ADDRESS.

When you relist, write a few times that it's LOCAL pickup ONLY.  Write that under NO circumstance will you ship this item because it's too big.     NEVER ever let a buyer alter your shipping method. Never.  There was a reason why you chose local pickup and you should NOT have deviated either.

No, the $30 fee is the fee that eBay already took from the proceeds from the sale.  They are crediting that back to you and you pay the rest (the $194.44) for the total refund back to the buyer.

Pre Managed payments, your fees were billed at the end of the month. Now they are taken immediately from the sale.
