Local Pickup

I like to offer Local Pickup and sometimes people come and pick up items to avoid shipping costs.   Lately my wife and I have had a increase of people choosing Local Pickup only to find out they are out of state.   I have to cancel the order and have them buy again if they want shipping.  Many of these people take days to reply.  It would be great if Local Pickup had a pop up box verifying that the buyer is planning to pick up rather than needing shipping.  Is this a problem for others?  I am considering removing the Local Pickup option.   I thought of adding a message in the description to contact me if they want Local Pickup turned on for an item.

Re: Local Pickup

It is a problem for many and kyle@ebay has escalated feedback numerous times that sellers would like a pop-up to appear on the checkout page where a buyer has to confirm they're going to pick up the item. Tagging him to escalate the FB again.

In the meantime, since you're seeing such an increase, I suggest removing local pickup from your listings and adding it only when a buyer requests it before they check out. You're already thinking along those lines which is a good plan @chamberstrinketstreasures .

Re: Local Pickup

I think the biggest problem with local pickup is the buyer sees free in the shipping section and don't pay any attention to the pick up part.

Have a Safe and Happy New Year.

Hey @wastingtime101@chamberstrinketstreasures@kensgiftshop  thanks for bringing this up!  I will gladly continue passing along this feedback and these suggestions to improve local pickup until it is no longer a paint point!

Thanks kyle@ebay - would love to see the selling team add this to the 2024 roadmap. 🙂

Re: Local Pickup

When I used to include a local pickup option for everything, this would happen all the time. Eventually, I just removed local pickup from all of my listings.  I asked a few buyers who lived across the country why they chose local pickup, and they said they just chose it because it was the "free" shipping option, and they never noticed (read) the "pick up" part.

I do allow local buyers to pick up items, if they contact me before buying, and then I can add the pick-up option for them. That is an option if one wants to offer local pickup and avoid the confusion/wasted time.

Re: Local Pickup

Hello, can we please update the buying process? When the buyer chooses Local Pickup, present them with a popup message something like, "You selected LOCAL PICKUP. The item is located in [insert location here]. Are you sure you do NOT want it shipped to you?"

This continues to be an issue kyle@ebay if you're still passing on the feedback.

Hey @wastingtime101 thanks for checking in, and I'm sorry to see this is an ongoing pain point. We'll continue to bring this up!
