I received a message from a buyer today.
"My item got delivered to Houston because someone changed my address without my knowledge. I just found out this week but didn't think that the change would be in effect this fast. We're not talking about much and I don't know if there are steps you can take for reimbursement from USPS. I would like to discuss with you to see how this can be fixed. Thanks."
The item was shipped to the correct address but looking at the tracking info it was forwarded to the wrong address. Any suggestions on how I can respond.
Thanks in advance

Ebay says you are covered if the buyer forwards the item to a different address.

@muttlymob, can a package be Forwarded after marked Out for delivery: Because it hasn't left yet?

Call her old Post Office. They can not give you her address but explain what has happened and let them know you are trying to find out if someone has messed with her address or if she herself is trying to pull a fast one. Either way something illegal has happened and she is either the victim or the perpetrator.

Yes, it can. In a PO where a clerk or other employee sorts packages to the different mail routes, scans them as Out for Delivery then hands them off to the carriers on those routes. The carriers then determine whether the package is deliverable and take them to the route, or if they are on a forward, hold or undeliverable. So the forward determination comes after Out for Delivery scan.

The question I would ask is "someone who?".
I wouldn't even ask that. At this point it is a legal issue between the buyer and the PO and whoever put in a change of address in his name. The seller is not responsible and cannot do anything about it.

I agree. The buyer messed up. She first said someone changed the address without her permission, then she said she didn't think it would go into effect that soon. What obviously happened is that she was moving and either she put in a forwarding order with the USPS before she actually moved. Now she wants OP to fix it.
