I purchased a shipping label using eBay shipping. When purchasing the label, it states that there is up to $100 insurance coverage. The USPS has lost the item and tracking for it has ended. How do you file for the insurance for the lost item. I Cannot find any place on eBay for a contact about this.

You logon to the USPS website, you may have to get an ID if you don't have an account and then you open a missing package claim. Following are the timelines you have to file the claim within. This link will walk you through the process.

Best wishes with the USPS, I hear they can be difficult to deal with.
Might I mention Cookie Jar Insurance?
This is just a cutsey-poo way of describing putting a few virtual pennies (or dimes) into a virtual Cookie Jar as a sort of self-insurance premium against the inevitable transaction that goes wrong.
It might be USPS. It might be a sketchy buyer. It might be your own packaging. Doesn't matter.
The buyer gets paid from the Cookie Jar without argument.
Many sellers find that the Cookie Jar is a profit centre, since most transactions go smoothly, as you have surely learned after over 12,000 successful sales.

For damage claims yes they can but I have never had a problem with a lost package claim. Most were approved and I had a check from USPS in under 3 weeks.

cookie jar insurance is logical as opposed to purchasing insurance.
Cookie jar insurance when "not purchasing the insurance"............... is a complete loss if refunding.
