3 eBay items I bought from Hong Kong (shipped in 1 package--a total of $56 with free shipping) were returned to sender by the post office. The seller told me it had been returned to him. The seller asked me for $8 more to ship it back to me. I asked him for a photo of the label to make sure it was the correct address. He told me that he shipped it to my address on PayPal (which is correct). I asked him again which address he sent it to before I sent him the $8 more, but again he told me he uses whatever address is given by PayPal. I doublechecked and my address is correct in PayPal. Should I just ask for a refund then?? eBay told me I can ask for a refund or ask for the item, they recommended that I open a item not arrived case. I did this and then the seller was kind of mad and then sent me a PayPal invoice for $8. I'm afraid he won't ship it to me if I pay the $8 more.

Why was the package returned? In most cases, opening an INR would NOT result in you winning the case. Look at the transaction in your My eBay. Scroll down and click on the View Order Details. Look at the address there. Is that the correct address?

Thank you for your reply. Yes. It is the correct address. eBay looked at it also and confirmed that my other eBay items have been shipped to the same address with no problems. I'm not sure why it was returned. I wanted to see a photo of the shipping label just to make sure there were no errors before it was sent again, but the seller wouldn't send me one.

Was it returned by YOUR post office? How long was it at your post office? If you failed to pick it up or arrange for delivery your post office would have returned it. If that is the case you lose your buyer protection and ebay won't issue you a refund. Your only option would be to pay the seller the 8 bucks and HOPE they send it back again. What does tracking say as to the reason it was returned to the seller?

Do not send the $8. Instead, as soon as that radio button appears, click on Ask eBay to step in.
Since the seller got it back, there will be no further movement on the tracking number, so eBay will award you the INR and issue the refund in a bit more than 3 hours after you escalate.

Actually, it depends on the reason given why the package was returned. A refusal won't get your money back with eBay except under certain circumstances.
Generally, the buyer is responsible for accepting the item when it arrives. If the buyer refuses delivery, their claim is not eligible for the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
Exceptions:
The buyer can provide, via written proof from the carrier, that they refused the package because it arrived empty or was damaged in shipping
The buyer accepted and opened the package only to determine that it was an empty box
The item arrived COD because it didn't have enough postage on it

I find it hard to believe that the seller shipped the items free from China (no matter what they charged the OP) and that the USPS sent it back to China considering the cost to ship from the USA back to China. Buyers here find the cost to ship back way beyond the value of any items they received from China so take the loss rather than return for refund~~or ebay allows them to keep the item and gives them a "complimentary" refund & allows the China seller to keep the money they received from the USA buyer.
I question whether the China seller actually got the item back~~it's probably at the USPS being sold on their own auction site.
