I sold a MacBook Pro, model 1287, with the year 2015 on the back. I sold it for parts or repair because it wouldn't boot up right. I'll never understand Apple, but the computer was actually a mid-2012 upon verification of the serial number. Since it was, in fact, a 2012 - I agreed to the return. I received the computer today, and it has a fairly significant dent on one corner. It's dented enough to where it doesn't open smoothly - the metal kinda "scrapes". I'm positive it happened either while the buyer had it in possession or during the transit back to me. I accepted this $400 return, but upon seeing the condition of it now.... I just cannot imagine having to refund the full $400. It very well could have happened during shipping, although there is a dent in the box that doesn't quite line up with the dent on the computer. I talked to eBay earlier and was told that "the manner in which I communicate with the buyer will be the main determining factor regarding the outcome". I don't have any apprehensions about how I've handled it so far... but I guess I'm just confused. A computer sold for parts or repair relies heavily on the cosmetic condition. I just don't know how this one is going to pan out. Anybody have a similar experience? Ideas? Suggestions? I had shipped it Priority Medium flat rate, signature required, but no added insurance. I was confident in my shipping, and had no reason to think it would be returned. This makes me think of another question.... IF I had purchased additional insurance from the get-go, would that same insurance be applied to the return label? (Which I didn't do, but now I'm just curious....) Any help..?

what was the reason for the return request from buyer? as far as the return, really nothing you can do if it was damaged. I was in a same situation years ago, buyer sent me back an item after he said it didnt work. when i got it, it was damaged in 1 place which made the item useless. when i questioned the buyer, through ebay messages, he said he recieved it liked that but tried to use it anyway. told him i wouldnt give him the money back as i felt he should of said something if he got it like that so I could of filed a insurance claim. he ended up filing a paypal claim and without hesitation, they gave him the money back. I opened a BBB case against paypal over the issue and they gave me my money back. ebay told me years ago, the seller is responsible for a return, even if it gets damaged or lost. that makes not a bit of sense to me as how is a seller responsible if a buyer sends back an item and it goes missing. also insurance only covers the item to the buyer, not the return package. hate to say it, unless your buyer openely admits he damaged it, your SOL. this is the sad part of ebay. buyers get items, damage it, file a return claim and SNAD and send it back for free and get their money back

The same insurance wouldn’t be applied to the return label. You would have had to buy insurance.
