I bought a GPS unit from a seller in Florida. When I received it, I discovered it was in terrible shape. I returned it and was given a refund. The GPS was returned to the seller, but he wasn't home. The letter carrier left a note for the seller to sign to try for another delivery attempt. He never signed it. He emailed back saying if I didn't get it to him, he would open a case with Ebay.
I emailed the seller several times to let him know he needed to sign for it or pick it up at his local Post Office. Last week, the GPS was returned to me as undeliverable. I emailed the seller, asking if he wanted me to ship it back via UPS instead. I haven't heard back from him. How long should I wait before tossing the unit in the recycle bin?

The seller is clearly not interested in receiving it back, and you have your refund. As you tried to return it and it was (essentially) refused, as shown by the tracking, you have no further obligation to him.

I'd wait 6 months at least
