Sorry if this appears twice, posted it yesterday but I can't find it. Sold a $500 item and shipped it to the address shown. Turns out it may have been a "flaky" 3rd party buyer/shipper to help the end customer avoid high shipping costs to England. Item shows "delivered to individual" which was an address in Illinois (that's what showed on shipping label). Somehow it never made it to the end customer so they have files an "item not received" which of course goes back to me and all I can do is say it was delivered which is what shows on the tracking # that was automatically posted. Questions:
1. Am I likely going to have to refund their money? What a bummer, I did EXACTLY what I was supposed to do according to the purchasers instructions. There was no way to tell (at least that I knew) that the purchase was made through a 3rd party.
2. Other than putting a listing add-on of no "3rd party" shipments (that could be easily ignored), is there something I can do to eliminate this activity?
Thanks,
BB1

Hey thanks! I use forums all the time, not just here, and can't understand why my original post didn't show this morning. I went back further than other posts were made before mine and it wasn't there. Looked several times!
Thanks,

This deeply burned in idea of "calling" to get your problem solved is old school and it's time for it to die.
The Customer Service department in most cases is deeply incapable of solving anything you can't solve from your end yourself. In this particular case you don't even have to call, once online viewable tracking has been entered and this tracking shows "delivered" the case will default to closing in your favor which it will, just let it time out.
Sadly it is the buyer who is left without recourse, you should also not assume that it is their fault.
It may in fact be an unscrupulous reseller who is setting it all up and letting the buyers take the fall when things go wrong, it is also unfortunate that the blame may fall on ebay or the seller although it belongs on whoever first had the stupid idea of relaying the shipment.

Enter the tracking showing delivered to the case you win, buyers problem is with the re shipper not you, you dispatched and delivered to the provided address, you have fulfilled your obligation, Any Negative feedback will also be removed once the case closes out in your favor.

Thanks everyone. I have added tracking info and also sent this message as part of the case: "Hi, I did go to a local post office, there is noting they can do as it shows the item was delivered. I have done everything I can: sent the item as instructed, it was delivered, talked to the 3rd party shipper (who said they received it and would send it), added the tracking information and spoke to my local post office. It is unfortunate that you made this purchase through a 3rd party shipper. "
Given that the tracking info is "attached" (you can see it in the case history) and I have sent this to the buyer, is there anything else I should do? eBay will "read and resolve" this, supposedly in my favor since, as someone mentioned, purchases through a 3rd party do not ensure "buyer protection"?
Thanks,

I would sit down and enjoy a cool beverage.

I will, as soon as I get notification that I'm cleared! I am a "glass half-empty" kind of person, pun intended!

Okay, I can finally "chill" with a drink. eBay closed in my favor but I did have to call.
Thanks everyone,
