Issuing refund

I received an item back for a return, and issued a refund through eBay. I went into PayPal to see if it was taken. But, only the fee was taken out of my PayPal balance. and the bulk of the main original price to be refunded was left behind. Does that mean they possibly used a credit/debit card, or used their bank through PayPal? And it may take a few days to clear? Thanks.

PP's way of displaying things can leave a little to be desired.  Did you click into the PP transaction and look at the details?  The reason I say this is because while your original payment you received may look in tact when you view the summary report, there would be a separate transaction on the actual day of the refund showing you sent the money back to the buyer.  But if you click into the detail on the original payment it will show you when you made the refund and give you the details there.

Chances are pretty good your refund found its way back to your buyer, it is just the quirkyness of how PP displays things that are the problem.

Let me know if this resolves your issue or if we need to consider other options.

When will the quirkiness of PP show my balance correctly? It's going to mess me up when I sell something again. Why won't it show what I should have remaining, correctly? Thanks.

You have to learn how to read it and follow how they do stuff.  The site is accurate, you just need to learn how they display stuff.

For example:  Lets say the original payment was on 10-1, so you see it added to your balance on that date.

On 10-15 you have the item back and you refund the item.  It is NOT going to go back to 10-1 and take the money out, there will be an entry on 10-15 showing the refund.  But you can go back to the 10-1 original payment and there will be a notation in the transaction that a refund was given on 10-15.  Your available balance in PP will also adjust down on 10-15 [not 10-1].

So, the PP balance will adjust down to where it should be later in the day on that refund date? it takes time to update? Thanks.

I have no idea what you are talking about, I didn't say that.  I think you are making this more complicated than it needs to be.
