Israel post sending an SMS when a package arrives?

I've heard from my friend that when your package arrives, it goes to the post office closest to your house and they send you an SMS telling you to come and pick it up. Is that why you put your phone number before checking out?

This is the USA site, it's unlikely anyone here knows how Israel's mail system works. I would call the local post office and ask.
