Is this normal?

I purchased and paid for something on the 10th of March. The seller is - verified - in FL and provided a shipping label almost instantaneously, as we finished communicating before that, and I decided to buy this item.

The tracking shows the following:

  • Mar 15, 2020
  • 12:00am
  • In Transit, Arriving On Time
  •
  • Mar 12, 2020
  • 2:37pm
  • Arrived at USPS Regional Origin Facility
  • JACKSONVILLE FL NETWORK DISTRIBUTION CENTER
  • Mar 11, 2020
  • 6:09pm
  • Departed Post Office
  • ORLANDO, FL 32808
  • Mar 11, 2020
  • 4:06pm
  • USPS picked up item
  • ORLANDO, FL 32808
  • Mar 10, 2020
  • 8:18pm
  • Tracking number provided

At the first glance, it seems there is nothing strange with the above, the item shows as "in transit." However, I have been checking the tracking of this package every single day, and two days ago, it showed :

  • Mar 12, 2020
  • 12:00am
  • In Transit, Arriving On Time

Then on the 14th, it showed,

  • Mar 13, 2020
  • 12:00am
  • In Transit, Arriving On Time

Yesterday it showed:

  • Mar 14, 2020
  • 12:00am
  • In Transit, Arriving On Time

Finally, this morning, March 16th,  it shows:

  • Mar 15, 2020
  • 12:00am
  • In Transit, Arriving On Time
The weird thing is, all the other, previous "In Transit" date stamps disappeared.

Is there anyone with insider knowledge who knows why this is happening?
In all my years selling and buying online, which is over two decades, I have never seen anything like this. Updates with the same text - YES. But updates that automatically wipe out the previously entered DATES with the same message, from the other days - NO.

Is this normal? Is this happening because they still have my package in FL and it is waiting to be disinfected, or otherwise processed? And if the latter, then why do they keep re-scanning my package, with the same text just different dates? Note: this is not sent by USPS Ground.

Any thoughts?
Thank you.

That is normal.  The "In transit, arriving on time" tracking entries are automatically added to tracking when there hasn't been a scan in 24-hours.

I believe that some Priority Mail packages are transported in the cargo-holds of commercial passenger airliners, and others are via a contract with FedEx ... if there are reductions in passenger airline trips, this may cause Priority Mail packages to be delayed at hubs.

@orangehound Hi there, thank you for your response. I do understand that it would keep getting updated - but wouldn't the old scans still show up, instead of being wiped out by a new scan? That is the only point I do not understand. I have purchased things in the past that would be updated over the days, while in transit - but they then would show every single scan that was done throughout the previous days. Hmm.

Any thoughts? Thanks

On other packages, I've noticed the automated scans disappear once a legitimate tracking scan happens ...

... I had a similar package mailed out last week that was unusually stuck at one of the hubs, and its tracking had a couple of those automated entries.  Last night, the package arrived at another hub, and all the automated entries disappeared.

O.K. Thanks, I hope this will be the case here, also!
