The post office told me I could save $1.66 if I ship my items as a large envelope instead of First Class thick envelope/package. I can't find a way to ship First Class Letter online. Anyone know if it's possible? Thanks.

Yes, you can, but there then is no tracking number or ebay/paypal protection on your shipments.
Both the free Stamps.com for ebay, and the free ShipSaver (under your my ebay app tab), will work. Both import directly from ebay and support regular or label printers. Although free to use, you do prepaid for postage cost, but at discount.

Did your Post office explain the difference between the two categories? Your item can't be shipped as a flat (AKA Large envelope) if it's over 3/4 inch thick, or rigid, or uneven thickness (which the PO defines as variation more than 1/4 inch).

Yes, that was explained.

Thanks! I got a tracking number when I shipped the last one as a large letter, first class from the post office. I wouldn't do it without being able to add the tracking number on ebay.

I'm not sure what your post office did. there is no tracking for first class letter.

It's not the same as eBay's tracking. I read it will only update once the letter is delivered. But that's good enough for me.
It cost me only $1 exactly to mail with a 4x7 bubble mailer at the PO. I went to the post office because the power had gone out and I couldn't print my label. He showed me how it fits as a large letter, then called his superior over and asked her what she thought. She agreed. On the receipt was a tracking number. I plugged it into eBay and they took it as legit tracking.
Normally it costs $2.66 to ship my items. But saving almost $2 per sale is a big deal to me.
Does anyone know how to fix my conundrum? Thanks for all your help.

It's been 10 days, so I'm going to ask the buyer if they've received the package. If they have, then that will confirm the tracking doesn't work.

Don’t get too excited now. That appears to be a receipt number which is not a tracking number. Hopefully I am wrong though. Postal employees are wrong at time and your shipping metrics might take a huge hit if you don’t acceptance scans within your handling time. And your buyers could end up with postage due.

I think you are right, that is just the receipt number and not viewable online, so will be no value for ebay/paypal protection or for tracking except maybe by the post office.

Do not contact the buyer.
