Over the years I've acquired a lot of magazines, electronics, and such, and, rather than ship them to the landfill, I thought others might think my trash is treasure. I can set up a DBA at my bank, get a Paypal account, take pictures with my phone, but I'm really not interested in getting boxes, and bubble wrap, and taping and all that, just taking the item to, say, the UPS Store, say "wrap and box this up for shipment; here's the label generated by ebay", pay them, and go back home. The very informative video on shipping has the young lady almost immediately talking about and showing a bubble-wrapped item already in a cardbord box on top of her balance. That's not really for me. So how do I figure out shipping/packaging amounts done this way?

That won't work, because in order to generate the eBay shipping label you need to know the dimensions and weight of the box. It's also difficult to estimate how much to charge your buyers for shipping if you dn't have the package information. But mostly: packing service is a big profit source for UPS et al. It's unlikely to be cost-effective as a strategy for ordinary ebay sales. Most shippers would only use it in special situations.

You don't and you are going to loose your shirt.
You have to work for the money, it won't come to you of its own volition.

You might consider offering your items through one of your local apps .... Free to a good home, just come and pick up.

Thanks for the very complete info. I'll have to re-think this. Some of the "offerings" are years old, and I guess they can stay where they are a bit longer.

Wasn't the money, really. Just didn't want to landfill some of the same stuff I see being sold on ebay to those who would appreciate it.

Even so going the route you were describing means that you would be paying a lot out of pocket for the privilege of giving stuff away.
