Is anyone else having issues with USPS?

I posted a question on this forum a few days ago about USPS. I ordered this $20 necklace on Thanksgiving and it still has not arrived. The seller did ship it and provided a tracking number. The seller shipped it the day after I ordered it. I have been in touch with the seller and she said that the postal service told her that they are backed up. It has been over a week and USPS has not updated where my item is. The seller filed a missing mail report on the USPS website for me. The necklace is coming from VIrginia and I live in Ohio. It should not take over 2 weeks to get to me. I don't even know if they have it. I don't know if it was lost or stolen. This is unacceptable. Ebay penalizes sellers if the item doesn't get to the buyer in a reasonable amount of time. I don't blame the seller, I blame USPS. I don't care if they have tons of mail to process, that is not an excuse to lose or not scan tracking numbers.

USPS is a mess right now. Last month they loss 2 of my packages sent to the customer. I went ahead and just refunded the customer and I am screwed but I think that is just the right thing to do. Customer and both I can see what happened . USPS does not give a **bleep** that they lose package too.

I now ship almost everythign with insurance. I have never had this happened in 15 years and lately it has been a nightmare. Pkgs coming to me are also late and loss.

File an item not received if your seller is unwilling to refund you for it not arriving on time if 2 weeks has already gone by past the projected delivery date. It is their repsonsibility to get the item to you no matter who the carrier is.

If there are no scans at all, not even an acceptance scan. then you have only  the seller's word that it was shipped at all.

You don't need to await the outcome of the seller's inquiry, just  file an "Item not received" claim.

OTOH, sometimes things do just show up.  Here's the tracking record for a package I received today: Ten days with no scans at all until it reached the local sorting center.

I completely agree that USPS "tracking" is often nearly the same as "no tracking" or "incomplete tracking".  Over the past 3 years of buying and selling on eBay, and receiving and shipping many packages via USPS, I have all too often been disappointed by the inconsistency of USPS tracking. Sometimes it's spot on, other times it's terrible.  For my theory on this subject see this thread:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Shipping-Returns/My-theory-as-to-why-USPS-tracking-is-so-inconsistent/...

Of course there are always a number of happy campers who post opposing views, but this does not help. Tolerating mediocrity, sloppiness, and downright incompetence only encourages more of the same. You might consider contacting and complaining to USPS Consumer Affairs for your area -- not the same as USPS Customer Service at 1-800-ASK-USPS.
