Well here we go again. I have another remorse return that was never sent back and eBay wants me to send a refund. My returns dashboard shows "returned delivered issue refund by the 13th". I am not sure how eBay would know if it was delivered or not because there is no tracking number for the return. When I click on return details it shows this:
Here's what happened
Oct 11You provided return information
Oct 11You approved the request
Oct 10The buyer created a return (5066455846)
Reason for returnDoesn't fit
CommentsIncorrect oil filter
There is no update after the 11th, it just shows return started. I called eBay and they said it will simply time out. My past experience with this exact same issues shows that to not be true. So it looks like I have three options. One, is to refund without getting the item back, Two let the return time out and have eBay force a refund and give me a defect. Three click "let ebay step in" which will have the same outcome as option 2. One would think the buyer would need to post a tracking number to prove an item was returned. I will be out right around $100 is I go with option one. Any suggestions?

I’ve had a few returns close out after 30 days but I believe that it is 30 business days not just 30 days.

Items shipped to another address after original delivery.
Sorry, you missed that forwarding means --
that the item will not be delivered to the original address:
It never has an original delivery: It just passes by and keeps on going.
An original delivery means that tracking stops.
But tracking continues onward for a forwarded item.
Forwarding does not void the eBay Money-back Guarantee.

Other posts seem to side with my interpretation of the MBG:
Maybe trinton@ebay can shed some light on this question.
If what you're saying is true, every seller on eBay should be placing "Do not forward, deliver to current occupent" stickers on their items when they ship it.

It seems that eBay has spoken. Like I said, forwarding voids the MBG.
At least people have it in writing now to reference straight from eBay.

Sigh.
You're conflating dissimilar services.
1. Reshipping, where an item is delivered to the original address
- and tracking stops, then the item goes on a second trip
voids the eBay Money-back Guarantee.
2. Forwarding aka redirection, where an item skips the original address
- and tracking continues, onward to a second address
doesn't void the eBay Money-back Guarantee.
@phcd1
But both when tracking shows delivered due to
- alternate delivery address requested by the buyer
- mail forwarding (aka redirection) arranged by the buyer
eBay customer service will deny a claim for item not received.
