Hello fellow eBay sellers,
After many years of selling larger items, I recently started selling light weight items (some less than 1 OZ) on my other account and need help on shipping as I have no experience in this weight class so any input I get is highly appreciated.
I have a few Popsockets that I want to ship (no packaging material just the socket) and was wondering whether I can ship them in a letter sized envelope with a single forever stamp (weight is much less than 1 oz)?? I am not worried about tracking as I am selling them for cheap (around $3 with free shipping) so the likelihood of scam is pretty low. However, I am concerned that they may be non-machinable because the letter is no longer flat. They are pretty sturdy but, if they are machinable, do you think they can get damaged by the sorting machines?
The thickness is also a tad bit more than 0.25 inches but by the slightest of margins and I think the maximum thickness for letters with no surcharge is 0.25 so can you please let me know whether I need to pay the surcharge and is it 21 cents? Finally, what are my options for paying the exact postage including surcharge if needed? Do I need a Stamp.com or endicia account or are there other options? sorry for the long post and thanks very much in advance for your help.

The 21-cent "nonmachinable surcharge" is for letters that are rigid, lumpy, irregular, etc. A piece that is over 1/4 inch thick cannot be mailed as a letter.

Thank you for your quick response. What if it's exactly 0.25 inches, will I need to pay the surcharge since the envelope will not be flat with the popsocket inside it?

Yes.
