I'm going out of town, but my package may come early. What happens?

I just purchased something on eBay and I was hoping it would arrive after Christmas because I'm going out of town, but seeing its tracking history, it's possible it may arrive early and I won't have anyone to pick it up for me. I delivered it to my workplace's address, a small store with just a front and back door, no mailbox. What happens when it can't be delivered and nobody's there to pick it up? Or does anyone have some solution?

I believe you can ask the PO to hold the package for you @drunder70, but you'll have to ask if they can hold a single package without placing a hold on all mail to the address.

@drunder70

What usually happens to mail addressed to your workplace if it can't be delivered and nobody's there to pick it up?

I missed the part about "it can't be delivered" and assumed that the OP was concerned the package would be left outside the door for somebody to steal.

In the event that the package can't be delivered, USPS will leave a pickup slip with the other mail and/or attempt re-delivery. After 10 days the package will be returned to sender unless there's a hold placed on the mail for that address.
