I am getting enrolled in ISP - caveats

I opted out of IS back when they changed rules. I don’t miss it. Couple months later I am receiving email stating I am going to be enrolled . Email sound like I have no choice. Email sounds like it is mandated.

Issues related to IS and the type of items I am selling is that I don’t have fitment guide or access to foreign made cars. I can’t do part match. Some countries  have steering on the opposite side than US- and I don’t know what else maybe a problem. It would require buyer to do the reserach themselves and ensure fitment.

what do you think of IS and ebay doing automatic enrollment that looks like mandate?

What is not clear, and this may be the work around, is for the EIS restrictions, like auction format, can the seller elect to still do their own international shipping outside of the EIS program. If you have been using EIS and have some insight on this please share. I looked at your listings and EIS is indicated but I do not see anything that falls in the restricted category. If you want to do some detective work switch one of your items over to an auction format or price it over $500 and see if EIS is still viable or if eBay strips it.

I predicted there would be issues with this program and opted out of the GSP before I was automatically switched to EIS and I have quit selling internationally for the moment.

Correct, I don't think I have any restricted items.   I changed this item to over $500, lmk what you see.  Give it a bit of time to re-index.

My understanding is that if you are enrolled, you cannot do your own Int'l Shipping, period.  Which is problematic, as I've already wanted to do it once.  Are there exeptions if the item is restricted?  IDK, but I doubt it.   Someone DID figure out a workaround yesterday.  Was it you?  I don't remember who it was, but they figured out a workaround to ship on their own, I didn't try it though, as that is not a typical thing I want to do.

I took a look at the item you increased the price on. Some interesting results. International shipping is no longer available for this item so the EIS program must have built in filters for the restricted items. Are you able to use the toggle button to do your own international shipping on this item or is it totally blocked?

My understanding is that if you are enrolled, you cannot do your own Int'l Shipping, period.  Based on your test so far that seems to be the case. Which is problematic, as I've already wanted to do it once.  It's going to be a problem for a LOT of sellers. Are there exeptions if the item is restricted?  IDK, but I doubt it.  From what has been posted so far and you test it appears there are no exceptions if you are using EIS  Someone DID figure out a workaround yesterday.  Was it you? Not me but I believe the workaround you were referencing was a poster that confused EIS with EISS I don't remember who it was, but they figured out a workaround to ship on their own, I didn't try it though, as that is not a typical thing I want to do.

No, I don't think the poster was confused (I believe that was a different thread).  Let me find it & link it.

In the meantime, here's what I see if I try to toggle International Shipping ON.  Basically, it works.  I get this message & it lets me slide the toggle & it would allow me to set up my own, but I'm not going to do it.

Add other shipping services

When you choose another international shipping service, we’ll use it instead of eBay International Shipping, wherever applicable.

Good to know bit of information. Thank you for doing the testing and research. So basically for anything that qualifies under EIS that is the default but sellers have an option to do their own international shipping for the EIS restricted items using other available options.

I told them I didn't NEED a reason and they had no right to opt me in to such a program without my consent.

@dbfolks166mt  Here it is.  It was @stainlessenginecovers  in post 20 of this thread:

I have not tried it myself, but it's basically a variation on what I just did, but he took it further.   It sounded like a lot of effort to me, but he said he did it in 3 minutes.

TBH, I almost never have a need to do it.  The whole reason I joined GSP & stayed with EIS is b/c I do not want to do Int'l shipping, though there are instances when it would be helpful to be able to do it for a specific listing & I do realize that some sellers wish to have more control on a per listing level.

ETA:  IDK if Stainless is a he, my apologies if those are not their preferred pronouns.

@dbfolks166mt  Happy to help.  I am going to change my listing back now, but feel free to page me if you want me to try something else at another time.

It was very easy to 'edit' any items I did NOT want in ANY TYPE of International Shipping. I just filtered all items over $100, then clicked the top box and then 'edit'

then, click 'excluded shipping areas' (paraphrasing) and clicked every box (all Continents)  and done.

I doubled checked by clicking a few of my 'over $100 items', scroll down and click the 'shipping' tab and I can see the 'excluded areas' as well as the drop down box now ONLY shows USA.

ps. me's a 'he' is correct.....
