The best you can do is read the seller's feedback.  Check out how long he has been selling.

Has he sold similar items before?

And, this is important, be sure you read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers.  It's seen in every listing and explains how buyers are protected if/when a transaction goes wrong.
