How do I include a note to buyer with shipping notification?

I am a fairly new seller. Three real sales and three scam buyers! Very evenly balanced...must be a yin yang thing.  My question is I am used to including a note to buyer after purchase, thanking them, letting them know when their purchase will hit the mail, and other necessary details. Must I send them a separate email of is there a way to include a note with ebay’s notification to them of shipping? Under “More” in “Awaiting shipping” there is an “add or edit note” dropdown but that seems to be a note to myself about the item sold.

You can 'Contact buyer' (if you feel so compelled) by using the drop-down menu to the left of the order in Seller Hub.

As a buyer I always appreciate the extra touch of the seller reaching out to let me know. As a seller if I've already engaged in pre shipment dialogue I will often let the buyer know when I've actually DROPPED off the package at the shipping center, carrier, etc.

As mtgraves7984 said, just use the messaging system
