How do I combine shipping for multiple quantities of a single listing?

Most of the time, people just want one item, but there are a few rare times when someone may buy two or three, and eBay only charges them shipping for the one. Because combining them means the package will now exceed 12 inches, the cost of shipping doubles. Depending on the location, it may be cheaper just to ship the items individually than combining them as one single package. Since I feel that it is unprofessional to ask for more money after payment has been sent, I’ve been eating up the costs, but that means I might not even break even on the sale.

Is there a way where I can charge additional shipping on multiples sold within one single listing? I know I can offer deals on multiples, but I don’t think that changes the shipping price.

You actually have done it already. If I access your Rotating color wheel and enter the quantity ONE it charges me $11.95 shipping. If I enter TWO it charges me $17.25 shipping.

By the way if the wheel is 12x17 how big is the box? If it is going to be over one cubic foot then be sure to enter the correct size of the box. Otherwise you will undercharge your buyer and have to eat it.

That’s strange. Are you using the app or the website? I got an order last week for two and it only charged him once, and I’ve been selling this one single item for years and have always been paid for just one. I have never had a multiple order pay me in full for shipping.

As for the size of the box, it’s 8x8x8. The wheel itself separates into 4 pieces, and the projector and base are separate, with instructions on how to assemble if it is not already obvious to the user.

I accessed the eBay listing through the website on my PC.

Try this:

Go to your listing and click on the headline as if you were a buyer looking st the information. Scroll down a bit to where it says "shipping and payment". Click that tab. That will open the shipping calculator that your buyer sees. Enter a ZIP code somewhat distant from you and get a price. Then change the quantity to 2 and see if it changes as it did for me.

I am not sure what APP you are referring to.

I see the same results as the other poster. It's possible that the buyers are being charged for 2 items but that the reason you end up paying more is that the calculator will add the weight of both items but doesn't change the dimensions so if the box is big enough for dimensional shipping to kick in,  you end up paying more for the label.  Since there is no way to tell the calculator what size of box you are using for 2 items, perhaps other sellers can post some ways of working around this.

By app I mean the phone or tablet app, not the website. I have discovered throughout the years that the app would prevent you from having access to certain settings. In fact, for about a year, if you listed something on the app, it would automatically put a “make an offer” option on it, even if it wasn’t selected. I would have to manually go back in, once live, and remove it. Any time I needed to do something, like reprint a label, I would have to visit the website. There was also a period, as a buyer, I would have to ask sellers about combined shipping. Apparently, if you add different items into your cart, the combination automatically applies. Well, for a while, in the app, it didn’t, and I would have to request an invoice. The app is getting better, but I don’t always trust it.

This seems to be what is going on. I went to print out a label, and it showed 4 pounds, not 2, but still showed 8x8x8 as the dimensions. In the past, I would just go straight to USPS, FedEx, or UPS and buy my label there, losing my eBay discount, but I noticed something... ...when I changed the dimensions to 15x8x8 the price does not change with it. If I pay the same $7, rather than $14 or whatever USPS will charge me, will it still reach its destination on time?

As long as the box is not more than one cubic foot (1728 cubic inches) it DOES NOT MATTER what the size of the box is. Shipping is (generally) based on weight. If a single item weighs 2 pounds then, yes, 2 items will be 4 pounds.

HOWEVER it is not necessary to leave eBay (and lose your discount). Simply correct the weight on the Buy Label page if need be before you buy the label. I know from experience that if a single item has a shipping weight of 2 pounds (including the weight of the box) then frequently a package with 2 items is only 3 pounds (because you are only adding the weight of the box once).

you ask:  If I pay the same $7, rather than $14 or whatever USPS will charge me, will it still reach its destination on time?

Enter the correct weight and pay whatever they ask. If you do not it will probably still be delivered but you will be back charged the extra you should have paid. EXCEPT the back charge will be at the retail rate, not eBay's discounted rate. In other words if you under pay by $7.00 you may be back charged $9.00 (for example).

What eBay charges your buyer and what the post office charges you are 2 entirely separate and unrelated calculations.
