I've been getting alot of Hawaii and Puerto Rico sales lately and would like to know how to tack on a surcharge to all my listing for these regions? I use a flat rat shipping on all my listings and DO NOT want to change to calculated. Just want to add surcharge to Regions that are far from me to ship.

Did you know that from your location in Ohio, the cost of USPS shipping to Hawaii or PR is the same as shipping to California?
Anyway, you can set up shipping rate tables in your site preferences, according to region, individual state, or even parts of states.

Why would you charge Hawaii and PR more? USPS charges the same for a flat rate envelope or a flat rate box no matter what zip code it ships to.
That pretty necklace you're shipping Economy Post costs more and takes longer to get delivered than Standard First Class.

Yes, the pretty necklace ships first class. I use the economy on all or most as it gives you a 10 day window for delivery which is needed since the post office needs extra delivery time these days. Flat rate is not going to help me as the items that have been shipping to PR in particular have been large bulky items. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Yes, I'm aware that the rates to PR, AK, HI is the same for me as CA. I actually would like to add a surcharge on for the west coast in addition for certain items that are larger or oversized. Thank you so much for the link on shipping rate tables. I will be checking this out!

actually Flat Rate maybe be better suited for this, use the ebay shipping calculator to compare the cost, you'll likely find a savings for the weight/size of package, just need to make sure that the item is shipped in in Flat Rate box (they have several sizes for Flate Rate)...I use flat rate when someone orders more then one of particular item as it's generally a bit cheaper then normal priority + you still get the $100 insurance for free ($50 if your not TRS).

A "large, bulky" item is not going to fit into a flat rate box. The Large is just 12 by 12 by 5.5 inches.
The flat rate boxes can be cheaper than regular Priority rates, depending of course on weight and distance. If your buyer is in Zone 1 or 2, then the Medium FRB is more expensive than shipping 13 pounds at the regular rate.

Are you going to call this additional fee a "Surcharge" or something else?

Buyers only see the total for "Shipping and handling" based on their location so the seller doesn't have to call it anything.

some people may consider large flat rate large and bulky... in any case I said use the shipping calculator to compare... flat rate can save you some money depending on location/destination or can be more... that's why you compare rates.

OP is discussing how to set up his listings with a flat (not calculated) price for shipping, not how to actually purchase postage. He probbly knows how to get the best postage cost whne actually shipping.

yes, but I didn't respond to the OP original post, rather one further down.

So the items will NOT fit in flat rate boxes. As I said the are large bulky. you know...OVERSIZED....

I"m well aware of the flat rate envelopes and boxes. The items I'm referring to will not fit in any of what USPS offers. So that is of no use to me. I really was just looking for information on how to add a surcharge onto some of my items. Not information about flat rate shipping envelopes and boxes. thank you.

you would do 1 of two options - 1. add a handle charge 2. add $1 or two to the shipping cost (non-calculated)... pretty self explanatory.
