How can I know ahead of time the size of the customs form?

I mostly ship to the USA (from Canada) and get the vast majority of labels through eBay.  I would say easily 75% of the time when I go to print my shipping label it is just a standard label measuring approximately 6x9 inches  (with a small prefilled customs table below the barcode).  Sometimes the Customs form is a seperate table that takes up half a sheet of 8.5x11 paper the I print my shipping labels on (the other half being the prepaid shipping lablel), OR, an entire sheet on page 2 of the shipping label I am printing.

Is there any way to tell ahead of time whether or not the customs form will not just be a small section of the shipping label itself.  When the weight is on the edge of the threshold for a higher shipping price, the addition of a seperately printed customs form (in triplicate) can be an additional 44 grams including adding a pouch for the forms.

Do you ship Canada Post using ebay labels?  In all the years I've shipped with CP I don't ever recall the customer form being a different size.   But I  seem to recall that the custom portion for Xpresspost labels may be different than the lower priced services.  Could you have used Xpresspost when your labels were bigger?

Just as an fyi...your are posting on a US board and though some of us from Canada do read these boards, you might get a more answers if you post on the .ca discussion board.   But if you are using USPS labels, this board would probably be better for answering shipping questions but you would need to specify that you are using usps.

Off topic -- I noticed that on at least some of your listings the service you specify is ' standard shipping from Canada'.  I tried using that when they started it but found that the estimated arrival time wasn't realistic so I use 'standard shipping from outside of the US'.

To give you an example, your item 235108981525 has 3 business days handling time and an estimated arrival date of Dec. 26-Jan 2 if purchased today. If you actually shipped on the 3rd day, that means that your package had just 7 business days to be delivered.  That is assuming that it is the US by the 26.  If it is still in Canada, it might be stalled for longer since the post office here is closed here on the 26th.

It looks like using economy shipping from Canada is even worse.  Item 235065222782 has an estimated delivery date of Dec. 26.

My listing item 354926877020 uses shipping from outside of the US and the estimated delivery time  with a 2 day handling time is Dec. 26 - Jan. 4.  I isn't a huge difference but I do prefer a couple of extra days before an INR can be opened.

I typically ship same day I get an order, so in general my item shows up ahead of any eBay estimate.
