Need some advice. I have multiple identical items that are listed in the same listing - for example, quantity of 3 are available with same buy it now cost for each item. These are large heavy items that would not fit inside a flat rate box and have to be custom boxed. Due to wide variety of shipping costs based upon buyers zip code distance from me, I don't want to do a flat rate shipping as it would over charge some and undercharge others based upon what I have to pay to ship to their specific zip code. Therefore, I chose the shipping option that varies based upon buyers zip code. These are items that someone may in fact want to purchase 2 or more of, and it's possible to fit 2 or more into a single larger box. However, the size of the box, and weight of the box, necessary for 2 or more compared to just one would result in a much higher shipping cost for 2 or more inside a larger heavier box. When I look at my own listing, and pretend I want to buy 2 or more, and use a distant zip code, the shipping for 2 or more does not increase in my trial self purchase, so I assume the shipping cost for 2 or more would not increase for an actual real buyer either. I don't see anything in the form when I did this, or now if I want to revise, that allows me to add in any type of additional shipping for 2 or more. Based upon my trial self purchase, it appears ebay does not double the weight listed automatically, and shows same shipping charge to buyer for 2 or more. How can I list these items, in same listing, but have the ebay system add in additional shipping costs to buyers for 2 or more purchased?

You need to select Calculated Shipping, so ebay can calculate the weight and distance from your zip code to the buyer's zip code.
You will also need to update your Shipping preferences to create a Rule to ADD THE WEIGHTS of the items.
My ebay > Summary > Account > Account preferences > Site preferences > Shipping preferences > Allow combined payments and shipping > Calculated shipping rule

Beware
Ebay sends an email to print out the buyers postage.
The money is collected for the item and postage from the buyer.
Buyer is paying for postage so there should be no charge to the seller.
Ebay makes it easy to print out and ship, but it is not, it is misleading.
I just received a $70 shipping fee on top of the $53 that was already paid by the buyer.
Needless to say the items shipped were around $10 in value.

thanks for advice - I just did that "combine all item weights" and saved that option, but my current listings are still not adding anything additional for shipping 2 or more?

thanks - but I did not see any advice in your post regarding how to list so additional shipping for 2 or more is charged to buyer?

Which listings is this for? On the listing for your salad plates shipping to Cali for one plate is $14 and $22 for 2 plates so that one is combing the weight. On the listing form there is a box to check off to apply your calculated shipping rule to that particular listing...do you have that checked off?

On your listing for your Canon ink, the shipping cost for one shows as $1.60 which is below the cost for sending a first class package. It is probably charging for a first class flat/lettermail and I'm sure that your package will be too big for a flat envelope...plus there is no tracking. Although you do state that your using first class package you still need to make sure that you have checked off the right thing in the Package Type section. You should have package (thick envelope) checked off, not large envelope.

I am the original poster of message - I appreciate everyone who responded. I was having trouble getting this to work on some refrigerator parts that I have listed.... so I just went and revised to listing to state I only have "1", but then in the listing I put I have 3, etc... and a buyer can contact me for multiple purchases and combined shipping charges. This issue did not have anything to do with my older listing for plates, ink carts, etc.... again thanks..... I am thinking, but not sure, that maybe you have to specify the special shipping rule when you first set up the listing, and that maybe you can't revise it once it has been listed -who knows.... but I am ok for now - thanks again.

thanks - the ink carts were not the listing I was having 2+ shipping issues with, it was some refrigerator parts... but I appreciate the suggestion and I have changed the shipping packaging on that one - thanks for response

Writing 3 Available in the title could make someone think that they are going to receive 3 for that price. It isn't a good idea to do it that way.

Yes, you need to REVISE your multiple quantity listings to specify your combined shipping rule.
