How are international returns handled?

A buy wants to return something. An item that was $20 and about 8 ounces. If I accept the return, how much will the label cost me?

Maybe cheaper just to refund them and tell them to keep the item?

It will cost at least as much to return it as it did to ship it to them.  Sometimes it's cheaper and easier to  just  give them their money back and say, do whatever with it.

on international returns its sort of expected that you would  have to send the buyer the same amount that was charged for shipping in order to return it.

if it cost you $10 to send it then you can pay them 10 to send it back.

refunding is much faster and an easy option for the sale to be over with quickly

By the way, in eBay all returns are the same-you pay to return and you refund the buyer.  It doesn't matter where they live.  As far as ebay seems to be concerned, it's all the seller fault and the seller MUST pay for everything.

Well it was $3.50 to ship first class using the eBay global, so same thing happens on the return?

Just want to be TOTALLY sure before I do this

Unfortunately the buyer can not use USPS first class to return it. They would have to go to their postal service and get the price there.

Another reason that I don't buy or sell overseas.

What kind of case is opened

Remorse ( Item does not fit or do not like item)?

Or

Seller fault ( Does not match description or photos or damaged) ?

If return is remorse then you are required to accept return but not required to provide a return label.

If return is Seller fault then you are required to provide a pre paid return postage label or funds to cover the cost of label.

You may be able to get a price from your buyers home country postal service providers website or failing that ask your buyer to find out from his home country's postal service provider how much it will cost to send the item back to you using a tracked or signed for service.

Depending on cost you can decide whether to have the item posted back by sending them that money through Pay pal  or issue a full refund which will close the return case.

As @48hrs-clothing  mentioned if the return is deemed to be seller caused, you would have to find out what they would have to pay either from their postal website or by asking the buyer.  It will definitely be more than $3.50 unless their country has very inexpensive international shipping.

Is it possible that the return is because of shipping damage?  If that’s the case,  than the gsp would refund the buyer without requiring a return but you would probably have to contact eBay about that.

Domestic sales: If you are not fully satisfied for any reason you can return it for a full refund.

International sales: If you are not fully satisfied for any reason you get to keep the item for free and still leave a negative because you paid VAT and waited 6 weeks for the item.

If your returns rate is higher than 1% and you are selling something you would want back in the event something goes wrong, international sales are a losing propsition.
