So I had a buyer say they bought item by mistake. Now of course we all know I didn't have to accept the return, but why be that person, right? Only problem is I gave free shipping on the item and by accepting the item back I'm out my shipping fees.
How do I get that back?
Thanks.

Unfortunately, you don’t.
When you get the item back and relist, don’t offer free shipping.

Can't get "free" back - this is a disadvantage of offering "free shipping"

Hopefully, you had built the shipping fees into the item price.
When you refund a buyer, you are required to refund the total amount they paid you.
However, I believe that, if the reason for requesting a refund was "buyer error", you can withhold the shipping refund.

It was definitely buyer error as ebay gave me the option to deny the return and they would close the case. But being a decent person overrode that option, alas we are here. Or I.
Thank you for the quick response.

You can only withhold the shipping amount on remorse returns if the buyer originally paid separately for shipping. If the item had 'free shipping' then you have to refund in full.

Increase the price when you relist the item.

Can you withhold the shipping there and the return shipping or just one way? Or are remorse returns are buyer pays shipping ?
