I bought an item that apparently was shipped first class, tracking is:
Can first class be insured? Otherwise the buyer and I would think seller would be nervous.

First Class can be insured, but the seller chose not to purchase insurance from USPS in this case. eBay also offers third-party insurance, which would not show up in the tracking information. He did purchase Signature Confirmation, which will ensure that the package isn't left on your front steps to be stolen..
Insurance protects the seller's interests. Buyers don't need it because eBay's buyer protection policy (called the mOney Back Guarantee) will get them a full refund if the item is lost or not as described.

Yes, it can be insured. You should contact the seller and ask THEM if they put insurance on though. It should come through fine, but if it does not, you are always covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
It does have Signature Confirmation on it, btw. Not sure if you saw that or not.
Expected delivery is tonight before 8:00 PM. It doesn't look like it is going to make it by then though to me 🙂

Those two automatic identical "on its way to..." updates at 12:35 today and yesterday are a sure sign that it's stuck on a plane or truck somewhere.

I asked the seller and he said it was scanned on those days. It means nothing in terms of where it is to say "on its way".

Why would you care if it is insured?

Why would I care that it is insured or properly shipped??
Because I paid for it to receive it!
BTW, is there any way if a seller decides an item went too cheap to accidentally on purpose ship something but not the item in a way it does not get to the buyer?

Are you buying and selling on the same id? I would seriously reconsider if you are. If you have a problem with this seller, what are you going to do about it? You would be better off if your buying account was flying under the radar.

You don't seem to understand how eBay works.
If the seller does not deliver the exact item in the proper condition, you will be given a 100% refund.
Insurance has nothing to do with it.

We know you'd prefer to get the actual item. But if the item never arrives then you will get a full refund whether it was insured or not. That's why insurance is irrelevant.

It is now 3 days later than your original post - what is the tracking status of this purchase ?

It finally went through a distribution center late today.

Sure a dishonest seller could do that if they wanted to. They could just ship you something else and claim it must have got switched along the way or they shipped the item to someone else by mistake and that person won't return it to them. If they are not honorable and want to keep the item they can find a way. In those situations, if you follow procedure, you will get your money back (yes I know that is not what you want).
