I sold a ASUS MB168B 15.6" IPS LED Portable Monitor. This is a small monitor you connect to your laptop for a second screen. It's a small, light box. My customer was charged $22.87 to ship to Oregon from PA. I was charged an extra $18.98 for shipping of the same item by ebay. My sister and brother in-law own the UPS store where I ship and they can't make sense of it. I even took another of the exact same item down to double check. He said (bro in-law) "if a customer brought the same package, weght/dimensions, shipped to the same location it comes up to $24.38 with absolutely no hidden fees".
It sounds like ebay is getting over bigtime!

If you shipped by UPS, and were charged an extra $18.98 after the item was delivered, that was done by UPS.
They have many surcharges that they apply.

UPS (and all others) ship by dimensional weight.
UPS and FedEx also have "add ons" for certain items.
UPS and FedEx bill through eBay after the shipment.
I would never use eBays UPS or FedEx account for shipping for many reasons...
So if you have the measurements and weight correct then the buyer paid and that money was sent to you.
You paid UPS for the shipment and then UPS has come back and charged you extra?
This has happened to many sellers.

To clarify, eBay doesn't charge hidden fees for shipping. If you were charged additional shipping that was from the shipping company themselves. They cannot charge you directly as you purchased your label via this platform, so they will charge eBay, which in turn will charge you. That isn't a hidden fee though.

Why didn't you just ship the package through your relatives' UPS store at their discounted rate? Why bother with eBay's bait-n-switch UPS account?

shipping company has internal contract with ebay that is reason when you print label through ebay then you see those carrier shipping option there and yes i believe too that ebay does over charge so often from sellers. i stop using shipping labels from ebay directly and i buy it from UPS directly and after few months i see my shipping cost went lower 25% . so then i realized ebay does charge hidden or over charge. when you print label through ebay either USPS or UPS, ebay force for dimensions, when you print directly from UPS OR USPS OR SHIPSTATION OR AMAZON, none of them force seller for dimensions so there is reason why other platform do not force seller for dimension and why ebay force? its means its all problem coming from ebay not from carrier only, they both have deals internally that no one knows.

The customer didn't pay UPS $22.87, they paid YOU $22.87 and then you paid UPS $18.98 which was charged after the package was delivered, not when you printed the label.

As @trading_nw mentioned. You are not charged for a UPS label until the item has been delivered so you were probably not charged an additional $18.98. That was likely the full amount that you were charged.
