Help shipping a very large ladder

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Little-Giant-18504-142-Compact-Cage-Ladder-4-6-IAA-Side-Wheels-Safety-Net/2...

The above link is the exact model ladder I have. I am looking to sell it, craigslist turned up only scammers so I would like to try ebay. If anyone has experience with shipping something this large I would really appreciate some input. It should weigh around 80 pounds.

Thank you!

I agree with the previous poster but would add that you should read up on how to list an item for local pickup/cash.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/payment-policies/accepted-payments-policy?id=4269

Remember to click on the "Read Our Full Policy" icon and pay particular attention to the comments about local pickup/cash, including:

  • Payment upon pickup
If you offer payment upon pickup, you'll also need to offer one of the approved electronic methods, and may include this statement in your listing: "Contact me for payment methods to pay on pickup."

Be sure to use eBay's recommended wording to the letter!

Good luck!

P.S. This might have been something you may have wanted to research and consider before you posted your listing for the ladder . . .

OP hasen't posted it yet, just asking for advice before they do. OP, list for local pickup only and include a line saying you could check shipping rates if someone wasn't local.

If you don't list it as local pickup and you were to ship it, there's always a possibility that the buyer would decide to return it for some reason. If they filed claiming it wasn't as described, you'd be on the hook for the cost of return postage, which would be very high for an item of this weight and size.

If it was listed for local pickup only, the buyer would have to return it on their dime to the local pickup point if it was shipped. Ebay doesn't see it as a shipped item when it's listed as local pickup only.

Not true. eBay would still make the seller pay for return shipping.

How could they do that if there is no shipping?

eBay: When creating your listing, simply select No shipping: Local pickup only from the dropdown menu in the Shipping details section. Make sure you've entered your ZIP code in the Item location because it'll be shown on your listing.

That has nothing to do with return shipping. If the buyer pays with PayPal, they are covered by the MBG and the seller is required to pay for return shipping. There is no local-pickup exclusion to that.

At least with local pickup there's a better chance of selling it to someone who won't return it since they can inspect it, and if they did decide to return it, most likely it would be local. Not saying it would absolutely be, just there's a better possibility, and therefore the risk would still be much less than selling with shipping.

Can you show where this policy is written? That the seller is required to pay for return shipping when there was no shipping in the first place. The point of local pickup is to sell items too large or heavy to ship.
