Help please. As seller, item "return to sender" after USPS delivery scan at buyer's address

I shipped an item to the name and address provided. USPS scanned the item delivered on Jul 29.  I received the item back a couple of days ago with "Wrong address, Return to sender" written on the envelop.  Upon investigation, the return trip is also in USPS tracking.

Buyer contacted me the day after delivery to me, claiming "I haven't received my item, what's happening?"

Based on other threads on this subject, I replied that the item was delivered, my obligation ended, and asked what solution does she want.  Her reply was that she gave the correct address, she's a long time member, and asks "What are you going to do?" I replied the same way, gave her the tracking link, USPS.com® - USPS Tracking® Results

, and said I wasn't going to do anything. I would wait to hear what solution she wanted.

The package had been opened, so I opened it too. The item was in the box, same condition as sent as far as I could see. Item costs about $100. Shipping cost me $6 but was free to her. Returns policy was returns accepted 14 days.

Other threads say don't re send, somehow I could loose the item. Don't understand that.

Return isn't applicable because she can't return the item.

INR isn't applicable, the item was delivered.

What should I do?

Why are there differences in the tracking record on eBay and on USPS?  The eBay tracking is missing the record for delivery to her address.

How can I obtain a copy of the offer I accepted and the invoice I sent, if any? The order details shows I gave a credit to erase the shipping cost charged in the listing. I don't remember doing that, nor remember why I would have done that.

1)    The original address was incorrect,

2)   Whoever lives at that address wrote,  "Wrong address,  Return to sender"

3)   Tell your "Buyer"    the item was returned and explain why.

4)   The ball is now in the "Buyer's court"

Don't get mired down in details or get ahead of yourself.

You have the item.    It's still worth $100.00     The $6.00 shipping is not that huge a deal.

Let the buyer tell you what she wants.

You could just cancel the entire thing with "Problem with buyers address" and walk away.

It might be worth eating the $6.00 to avoid having to do business with this problem buyer.

When I have had this situation I have just gone ahead and cancelled/refunded.  Problem with buyer address. I eat the shipping. Transaction is over.  BBL increases by one.

I also take a photo of the item returned showing the return action, and the ship to address.

Have you google the address, just to see if this is a house, Apt, farm, etc.? I find it odd that the package was opened & then someone manually writes the "RETURN TO SENDER" Don't you?

Just cancel and refund with problem with buyers address, you are not lying. Eat the $6.

Re: Help please. As seller, item "return to sender" after USPS delivery scan at buyer's ad

You have the item back I would simply cancel the sale listing problem with the users address, which is a true statement. This should automatically refund the buyer and refund your fees. The sales tax if there was any eBay will have to refund.

I am not sure what is broken with the link between the eBay tracking information and why it does not pickup everything that shows in the USPS tracking system. I have had this problem before. I never could figure why eBay pulls the information from USPS to update the order tracking rather than just linking the seller/buyer to the USPS site. Seems to be a waste of programmers time and effort.

You should be able to retrieve a copy of the invoice you sent from your messages outbox. The shipping cost should be part of the refund eBay sends so no reason for you to do that directly, of course you will have to eat the $6 shipping costs which you can write off your income taxes as an expense.

Let the buyer know you canceled the sale and they should be seeing the refund from eBay and if not to please contact you. Tell her you are going to relist the item if she is interested but she should check with her postal carrier to figure out what is up with the address and why it got incorrectly delivered and refused.

Thank you all, @dirk12955 , @buyselljack2016 , @titipeo , and @dbfolks166mt  for you unanimous, plain spoken answers.

Getting two messages without the buyer making offer any possible explanation for the handwritten "wrong address....", or asking for a refund or remailing, any the messages immediately following my receipt being posted to tracking was all very suspicious.  But my other brain says, come on, I'm being too suspicious.

I accept your advice. I choose no drama. I will cut connection.

Just a side question

so when you do cancel an order, as a seller. When you select issue w buyers address, does the package get sent back directly to me if I was the seller ??
