Help -- Shipping Advice

I am new to eBay and have sold a framed print that is 36" x 30" x 3".    I stated clearly that shipping was the responsibility of the buyer and the cost would be determined after the sell based on buyer's location.

I sold the print yesterday .....

1.  eBay calculated the shipping as $17.17 and 'collected' this amount from the buyer. This amount is absurdly low. I am on the East Coast and the buyer is on the West Coast.  HOW DO I GET THIS AMOUNT CHANGED?

2.  I do not understand what the next step might  be.  I need to buy good, safe packaging and take it to the post office or UPS for delivery.  HOW DO I GET REIMBURSED FOR THIS SHIPPING?

Believe me ... I have looked at so many articles on eBay shipping, but I am completely confused.

Thank you for any advice.

Re: Help -- Shipping Advice

I looked at your listing and realized that there is a potentially misleading situation for a new seller.

Entering the dimensions in Item Specifics does not affect the shipping calculations.

You must enter the dimensions in the Shipping Section of the listing as well.

Yes, this is absolutely true.  In Item Specifics the seller would enter the dimensions of the item itself, whereas in the shipping section of the listing form the seller would enter the dimensions and weight of the package that they will ship.

Re: Help -- Shipping Advice

I recommend you go garbage picking behind a store that sells furniture and artwork for free packaging and use USPS as indicated in the listing, not UPS.

I ran a check using Pirate ship, see my post up thread. The listing indicated priority mail shipping but  that is not even an option when you go to purchase the label and ground advantage is around $260 for the discounted rate. UPS ground is around $70. These figures may be a bit less I took a guess at the size and weight of the item once packaged up.

Your hypothetical package (38 x 32 x 5) has a length-plus-girth of 112 inches, which exceeds the 108 inch limit on length-plus-girth for Priority; the limit for Ground Advantage is 130 inches.  Pirateship would of course charge much less for UPS Ground than the price charged retail at the UPS Store.

Re: Help -- Shipping Advice

Where do you find shipping boxes this size for $15? I've been buying mine at Home Depot and they are much more than $15.
