Handling fees

It appears handling fees are more common these days.  I remember when Ebay did not encourage them at all and it was not done.  Now it is more prevalent.  Is this true and it is more acceptable?

All mail order companies add a handling fee. Sometimes it's part of the "shipping and HANDLING" amount, sometimes it's part of the selling price. Sometimes both.

I've been buying and selling on eBay for almost 20 years -- eBay always has provided a means to add a handling fee.

As duchess noted, ebay has always allowed sellers to add a handling fee.

I had the impression that competition had actually decreased the prevalence of handling fees. eBay has taken several steps to encourage sellers to offer free shipping.
