I was charged $113.29 each for two shipping labels for air pellet rifles. It would have cost roughly $20.00 each if I paid for shipping at the post office.

I seriously doubt if you could ship either of those items for $20.00 (retail at the post office) , but if you say so.
coast to coast (40X5X5) 7 lbs is around $26.00 Ground Advantage USPS at ebay (commercial) rates, so I have no idea what kind of postage you bought from ebay...
the scary part is you didn't hesitate before spending over $100 in postage....

'shipping labels'...might have saved a lot of trouble by just checking with a clerk at the post office in person before shipping...or even listing them.
The post office will always give a customer an estimate before shipping and you do not have to buy anything.

$113.29 does seem quite high, but PO would not have shipped for $20. Priority mail "surcharge" itself for items over 30" long is $18.

I suspect that pellet rifles exceed the standard length of 30 inches and are subject to a $15 surcharge, but I cannot believe you can get to the total you claim.

I can believe it I had to ship package to a zone 3 back in November .the package was 5 pounds length 23x14x12 $48.43 ground advantage priority mail $74 + . I had USPS double check it ,the rep was surprised also. She did price check to see what price would be Ca. to Pa. ground advantage was $124.60 and Priority was around $170 .

That package has a dimensional weight of 24 pounds, and will also incur the $30 surcharge for packages with a volume over 2 cubic feet.

I know but $30 surcharge fee from zone1 to zone 3 in same state . They don't surcharge $30 to a zone 2 . I did price both UPS $28+ and FedEx $31+

Surcharges are not zoned. I suspect that zone 2 package had wrong dimensions or there was a software issue at the site issuing the postage.

No it didn't . The USPS rep checked it out .

You don't understand the story, Mam. You're making a big deal about my guess of $20. Who cares about that when I'm talking about overpaying by hundreds? A $26 charge x2 would have been a blessing compared to paying $226.58 to ship 2 air rifles that didn't weigh over 5.5 pounds each. Here's what you don't get. I purchased two shipping labels "assuming" they were for the cheapest ground shipping by default, especially because countless air rifles are sold regularly and are normally shipped by the cheapest ways available. I trusted that their system would know this. I resent your comment on my willingness to spend over $100. I can only wish I knew how much I was being charged. They never made it clear about any prices or what type of shipping I was buying. Maybe I didn't read all the fine lines and missed something, but I wasn't worried because, as I said before, I trusted their system and was sure it was going to be a reasonable price. It wasn't until after I shipped both air rifles and was looking at my online checking account figures that I noticed the 2 eBay charges for $113.26 each. I was in shock and furious. It was already too late to do anything about it. I found out the labels they sold me were for Priority Mail and automatically figured in a certain weight and package dimension. When I finally got through to a live eBay person, I was told that there was nothing they could do and that I would have to take it up with the USPS. Let me add this. I am a low-income senior and sold my two prized, rare, vintage museum quality Benjamin air rifles that really hurt to part with, especially for much less money than they're worth, just to have some extra money to help with the high heating bills. Now I'm out two prized possessions and most of the money I needed to get by. I feel totally defeated.

They just scan the label and give you a receipt. They assume you know the rest. Now I wish I had asked some questions.

My boxes were about 40" long because of the protective padding I placed on top and bottom of the rifle.
So, probably around 40 x 8 x 5 inches. One went to Alabama and the other to South Carolina, from Western Mssachusetts.

Let me tell you something "Rockstar", I have better things to do than to make up **bleep** stories. You have a problem. See 2 charges for $113.29.

Thank you. The "Tobacco Brain" doesn't believe it.
