Global shipping program experiences

As just got quite a hassle with a package from UK to Finland, have to share my experiences. Also the postal office's employee told that there has been recently quite much issues as part of the ebay packages are sent back as the recipients/buyers don't get any notification that the package has arrived.

So two weeks ago bought wake bindings from UK. Seller updated to ebay that the package is shipped. Also a bit later got tracking code. Then later with the tracking code I googled some parcel force site which accepted UPAAC.. code.

With this tracking code I saw that alright, package sent on 13th Aug, then it arrived to global shipping center on 17th. Somehow it took three days on the global shipping center where it was sent out on 20th August (still it was on UK, Lichfield). After this it went quite smoothly when finally 25th August it arrived to local pickup point.

Now only problem was that I didn't got any notification at all via e-mail, SMS or by eg. post. Just nothing. Then I tried to fetch the package to the office where most of the packages are arriving (basically Finnish postal office), they told that sorry - the tracking code don't say anything to them. After this hassle I tried dig into details and found out there is quite a sub-sub-sub-shipping partners involved. So..

First site informed only the basics. Then googled https://postal.ninja/en/track where I got also another tracking code, with reference of "wnDirect" and again another reference. And then via wnDirect site's tracking code again found out that the carrier is actually Bring and got then Bring's tracking code. So this tracking code was now already fourth shipping reference to the single package which was shipped from UK to Finland.

Now this last one rang a bell to the local postal office and they could find the package. On the package there was multiple stickers even with Hermes branded one. Only issue was now that within this long chain, my phone number was already missing and the package was with Bring "Pickup Parcel Bulk" - got no notification by post and as the phone number didn't get through the chain.

I have ordered quite much things in the last 15 years from ebay, never got any issues eg. on Royal Mail or USPS, but now it seems that ebay just taking the most cheapest partners what they can - whatever is the actual outcome and quality after these chained sub-sub-deals.

On another account I recently sold an item to a Buyer in Finland, and it was sent using the GSP as well.

As it was a high-value item I was tracking it from my end like a hawk.  After tracking showed that it was available for pickup by  Buyer, I thought it odd that the Buyer was letting it sit there for over a week.  I contacted Buyer thru eBay messages and they said they had no idea it was ready for pickup.

The same Buyer contacted me for an additional item that we did not have listed on eBay, but went along with the kit originally sold to him.  We agreed on a price and I sent it to him, this time using USPS Priority Mail International Small Flat Rate Box.  The same situation happened, the Buyer was not informed that the package was available for pickup, until I messaged him and informed him based on the tracking info provided thru eBay by the USPS.

So for my little sample, maybe it's an issue with Finnish Post in general, they don't seem to be proactive when it comes to informing receipients that they have international packages waiting for pickup.

Once I had similar issue. I made an order and entered the wrong postal code so my parcel was lost. Luckily I asked for help our local delivery service and they helped me to solve that issue. Now I always check my postal code here https://worldpostalcode.com/united-kingdom/ to avoid such mistakes.
