Global Shipping Program

I do not use this because someone claimed a defect in the Item I sold, and ebay told me had to reimburse entire sale (including customs fees).  I sold an $8 phone case and it ended up costing me $22.  They said there was a scratch on the case, which I could not see. I had to refund anyway. 

Is this the norm? If someone claims a defect and wants a refund, do I have to reimburse customs fees? 

It's been a while since this happened. I would like to try and increase my sales , but do not want to lose more money than I make.

You refund the full amount the buyer paid you.

The GSP is responsible for refunding customs and shipping from the GSP to the buyers location.

I have not heard of seller's having to reimburse the Import fees on GSP orders - I don't see how eBay can force a seller to refund more $ than they received - how did they get the extra $ from you?

Did you speak with anyone from eBay CS about it before refunding?

You don't ever have to refund any amounts that were paid to the gsp.  If an item wasn't as described and it wasn't  shipping damage (caused by the gsp) , the seller is responsible for refunding the amount that the buyer paid for the item and domestic shipping and if they want the item back, they have to pay for return shipping.

Hi, yes I did speak to Ebay, and they said I was responsible for full amount (including customs).

So, this might have been an isolated incident and not the norm? Nothing you have ever heard of?

Might have gotten the wrong customer service rep that day.

I no longer use the GPS, but selling a $8 item with the GSP doesn't really make any sense.

 

Not sure why anyone would pay international shipping fees(+ customs/duty) for a $8 item unless it was a very desirable item being sold at a large discount.

 

Some of my items go international, but that is via "freight forwarders" that those international buyers use.

"Isolated" doesn't even make sense  - I don't see how legally eBay can force a seller to refund more $ than they received. You didn't receive the Import Fees, PB did.

If you click "refund" on your order, that's the max you can refund - the $amount you were paid, so how did eBay get the rest of the $ from you?

I would complain (loudly) to eBay CS again - go through their social media team this time.

No, if you use the GPS, you don't receive the fee's the buyer pays for customs.

You are only responsible for what the buyer paid you.

With GSP you just refund the payment you received and that automatically triggers ebay to refund the buyer's other shipping and customs fees.

It's not even possible to refund more than what your payment was for (unless you go outside of ebay and actually pay the buyer money directly.)

When I pulled up the transaction on the return, it showed refund account to customer was like $22 and something. I called ebay and they said that was the amount I had to refund because the customer was claiming a defect.  It was about 5 or 6 years ago. I removed the GSP from all of my listings and never looked back.

Your items currently show international shipping via the Global Shipping Program. Are you confusing Global Shipping Program (GSP) with something else?

Ebay lists benefits of Global Shipping "

  • If an item is lost or broken during international shipping, eBay Money Back Guarantee cases will be resolved in your favour, and your seller performance standards won't be affected"  Maybe the scratch was shipping damage.  I would definitely want proof of the defect and would talk to Ebay about this.

You're absolutely correct. I've used eBay Global Shipping Program as a seller and I will never again. The buyer decided my item "didn't match the description" (aka buyer's remorse) and wants to return it. Of course, there are no protections for the seller. So, in order to return it, I need to find a courier in Italy or use an Italian shipping service (while attempting to understand their website through Google Translate) or they will simply refund the purchaser and he gets to keep the laptop. An absolute disaster.

I thought eBay Global Shipping Center opened the package in Kentucky inspected it for item as described then shipped item internationally. My understanding is the buyer cannot return the item or leave negative feedback because the item was inspected.
