This has to be the worst thing about eBay, aside from it's and PayPal's 13% cut of the sale... Items shipped through the Global Shipping Program as first sent to a local hub then onto their destination, often costing much more than just shipping directly.
I bought an Item from New York and it's now been 11 days and it's still not delivered to Toronto. Can you believe it?! It was first sent in the opposite direction to Kentucky and now? Who knows. Still hasn't reached receiving on the Canadian side.
Insane something that should take 3-4 days max, ends up taking 14-16 and polluting 3x as much just being driven around in circles.
Absolutely disgraceful eBay pushes this option on it's sellers.

I and many, many others wouldn't ship internationally when there are almost ZERO seller protections without it.

I can understand the buyers perspective but you have to realize that as a sender there is no guarantee for us of an item getting to the buyer with direct shipping these days. I completely quit after the second item in a week was stopped in customs in the foreign country and not returned. The buyer wanted their money back of course and Ebay obliged. With GSP our responsibility end in KY. Another issue I had was shipping a $20 sold item and paying $90 to ship it. Where is the business sense in that? The only complaint I have it the return method....there is none.

Just to add what others have said.
Many shipping label providers are starting to use other carriers than USPS because of the price increases.. It usually involves mailing the order to their respective distribution centers. Ebay and their partner DHL use their Kentucky center.
I don't use ebay, I use another label provider pirateship.com. They partnered with Asendia and they have several distribution centers. I am on the east coast, if the package goes to Asia, their distribution center is in Chicago. If my package goes to Europe, it goes first to their center in New York. The prices I pay for the postage thru this arrangement are substantially cheaper than USPS's rates and even cheaper than ebay's.
This may delay the delivery but on the other hand, these types of arrangements provide door to door tracking to all countries they cover, unlike USPS who provides such a service only to about a dozen countries.

SMH.... so you think because you live close to New York that your package should arrive within 3-4 days max? You do realize New York is in a different country than Toronto, no?
You do understand what a border is, no?

Had a lot of problems with GSP and eBay Standard International. Shipping times are way to slow. And, yes had a package 40 days east coast to Toronto. For the moment, I have stuck with USPS on international. Note though that some countries have long back ups at customs. I had a package go to Spain a couple of weeks back, Made it over the pond to customs in 5 days and the sat there for two weeks to get cleared. That seems pretty common now in EU. Two weeks ago I had a package east coast delivered in Tokyo in seven days (USPS). Many customers who buy regularly from overseas are aware of wait time and patient.
Note to all if you a site like ship24 you can get much better granular tracking information then eBay provides.
